The proposed CAD system outperforms in classifying the noisy kidney ultrasound images precisely as compared to the existing state-of-the-art methods. Further, the CAD system is evaluated in terms of selectivity and sensitivity scores. The presented CAD system with the pre-processing module would serve as a real-time supporting tool for diagnosing multi-class kidney abnormalities from the ultrasound images. To determine the prevalence of oropharyngeal high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) in patients undergoing tonsillectomy by detection of high-risk HPV in tonsil tissues using the in situ hybridization (ISH) technique. The patients who underwent tonsillectomy between 2014 and 2018 were examined retrospectively. The pediatric cases and patients who underwent tonsillectomy due to malignancy were excluded. The study included 270 adult cases selected by age and gender randomization. The tonsillar tissue of each case was re-examined by the pathology department, and the presence of high-risk HPV was investigated via the ISH technique. Multiple logistic regression models were used for predictions of different factors. The prevalence of high-risk HPV in the 270 patients (male 154 [57%]; female 116 [43%]; mean age 36.44±12.87years) was found to be 6.7% (n=18). The prevalence was found 8.4% in men and 4.3% in women; 8.9% in cases under the age of 40 and 2.9% in cases over the age of 40; and 10.9% in patients who underwent tonsillectomy for infectious indications and 2.3% for non-infectious indications. Multivariate analysis identified that the infectious indications for tonsillectomy were significantly associated with high-risk HPV positivity (OR 5.328; p=0.009). A retrospective chart review of adult patients who underwent stapes mobilization or stapedectomy for otosclerosis was performed. Operative notes reviewed; patients included if diagnosed with otosclerosis without another otologic disease that could contribute to their hearing loss and all required data were available. Pre-and post-operative audiograms at 1, 6, and 12-months were evaluated to compare the air-bone gaps between the mobilization and stapedectomy procedures. The rates of sensorineural hearing loss also were compared. Student t-tests and multiple regression models were used to ascertain the association between improvement in post-operative air-bone gaps, sensorineural hearing loss, and the procedure undertaken. Sixty-seven (n=67) patients with 108 procedures were included for analysis. No substantial difference between the surgical subgroups was found when comparing stapes mobilization to stapedectomy, and there was no evidence to suggest that either surgical procedure was superior to the other based on the data obtained and analyzed. Unnecessary transfer of certain facial trauma patients results in a burden of time, money, and other resources on both the patient and healthcare system; identification and development of outpatient treatment pathways for these patients is a significant opportunity for cost savings. To investigate the treatment and disposition of un-complicated, stable, isolated facial trauma injuries transferred from outside hospitals and determine the significance of secondary overtriage. Retrospective chart review utilizing our institutional trauma database, including patients transferred to our emergency department between January 2012 and December 2017. Patients were identified by ICD9 or ICD10 codes and only those with isolated facial trauma were included. We identified 538 isolated facial trauma patients who were transferred to our institution during the study period. The majority of those patients were transferred via ground ambulance for an average of 76miles. Overall, 82% of patients (N=440) were discharged directly from our institution's emergency department. Almost 30% of patients did not require any formal treatment for their injuries; the potential savings associated with elimination of these unnecessary transfers was estimated to be between $388,605 and $771,372. The aim of our study was to perform a comparative analysis in our cases with titanium partial clip ossiculoplasty in terms of audiometric outcome and extrusion rates as well as to review the literature for relevant information on this surgical issue.
