Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) methods have quantified changes in levels of neurotransmitters and neurometabolites in patients with major depression across the lifespan. The application of 7T field strengths and greater have not been a major focus of study in patients with late-life depression (LLD). Although non-conventional sequences such as perfusion-weighted MRI may differentiate low-grade from high-grade gliomas, they are not reliable enough yet. In this regard, we aim to evaluate the role of Amide Proton Transfer (APT) imaging in grading gliomas as a non-invasive tool to provide reliable differentiation across tumour grades. This study was designed to preoperatively predict microvascular invasion (MVI) of solitary small hepatocellular carcinoma (sHCC) by quantitative analysis of Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced hepatobiliary phase (HBP) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Sixty-one patients, 19 with and 42 without histologically confirmed MVI following hepatic resection for solitary sHCC (≤ 3 cm), were preoperatively examined with Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI. The regions of interest (ROIs) of the hepatic lesions were manually delineated on the maximum cross-sectional area in the HBP images and used to calculate the lesion boundary index (LBI) and marginal gray changes (MGC). Histogram analysis was performed to measure standard deviations (STD) and coefficients of variation (CV). Correlations between quantitative parameters and MVI were evaluated and differences between MVI positive and negative groups were assessed. The average LBI (0.85 ± 0.07) and MGC (0.48 ± 0.27) values of the negative group were significantly higher (p < 0.05) than the corresponding LBI (0.72 ± 0.07) and MGC (0.28 ± 0.18) values of the positive group. STDs and CVs in the negative group were significantly smaller (p < 0.05) than those of the positive group. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis revealed that LBI had the best predictive value with an AUC, sensitivity, and specificity of 0.91, 87 %, and 80 %, respectively. This study evaluated the correlation between intratumoural stroma proportion, expressed as tumour-stroma ratio (TSR), and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in patients with rectal cancer. This multicentre retrospective study included all consecutive patients with rectal cancer, diagnostically confirmed by biopsy and MRI. The training cohort (LUMC, Netherlands) included 33 patients and the validation cohort (VHIO, Spain) 69 patients. Two observers measured the mean and minimum ADCs based on single-slice and whole-volume segmentations. The TSR was determined on diagnostic haematoxylin & eosin stained slides of rectal tumour biopsies. The correlation between TSR and ADC was assessed by Spearman correlation (r ). The ADC values between stroma-low and stroma-high tumours were not significantly different. Intra-class correlation (ICC) demonstrated a good level of agreement for the ADC measurements, ranging from 0.84-0.86 for single slice and 0.86-0.90 for the whole-volume protocol. No correlation was observed between the TSR and ADC values, with ADC r = -0.162 (p= 0.38) and ADC r = 0.041 (p= 0.82) for the single-slice and r = -0.108 (p= 0.55) and r = 0.019 (p= 0.92) for the whole-volume measurements in the training cohort, respectively. Results from the validation cohort were consistent; ADC r = -0.022 (p= 0.86) and ADC r = 0.049 (p= 0.69) for the single-slice and r = -0.064 (p= 0.59) and r = -0.063 (p= 0.61) for the whole-volume measurements.
