This slowdown is interpreted in terms of an excitation energy transfer limitation from low-energy chlorophyll forms in the PSI-LHCI. These results aid in defining the optimum balance between the extension of the antenna bandwidth to the near-infrared region, which increases light-harvesting capacity, and high photoconversion quantum efficiency.Recently, we suggested that hypobromous acid (HOBr) is a sink for the marine volatile organic sulfur compound dimethyl sulfide (DMS). However, HOBr is also known to react with reactive moieties of dissolved organic matter (DOM) such as phenolic compounds to form bromoform (CHBr3) and other brominated compounds. The reaction between HOBr and DMS may thus compete with the reaction between HOBr and DOM. To study this potential competition, kinetic batch and diffusion-reactor experiments with DMS, HOBr, and DOM were performed. Based on the reaction kinetics, we modeled concentrations of DMS, HOBr, and CHBr3 during typical algal bloom fluxes of DMS and HOBr (10-13 to 10-9 M s-1). For an intermediate to high HOBr flux (≥10-11 M s-1) and a DMS flux ≤10-11 M s-1, the model shows that the DMS degradation by HOBr was higher than for photochemical oxidation, biological consumption, and sea-air gas exchange combined. For HOBr fluxes ≤10-11 M s-1 and a DMS flux of 10-11 M s-1, our model shows that CHBr3 decreases by 86% compared to a lower DMS flux of 10-12 M s-1. Therefore, the reaction between HOBr and DMS likely not only presents a sink for DMS but also may lead to suppressed CHBr3 formation.Sodium-selenium (Na-Se) batteries have aroused enormous attention due to the large abundance of the element sodium as well as the high electronic conductivity and volumetric capacity of selenium. In this battery system, some primary advances in electrode materials have been achieved, mainly involving the design of Se-based cathode materials. In this Review, the electrochemical mechanism is discussed, thus revealing the main challenges in Na-Se batteries. Then, the advances in the design of Se-based cathode materials for Na-ion storage are systemically summarized, classified, and discussed, including Se/carbon composite, Se/polar material/carbon composites, and hybrid SexSy alloys. In this work, a squaramide ester derivative of desferrioxamine B (H3DFOSq) was used attach either Tyr3-octreotide or Tyr3-octreotate to the metal binding ligand to give H3DFOSq-TIDE and H3DFOSq-TATE. These new peptide-H3DFOSq conjugates form stable complexes with either of the positron-emitting radionuclides gallium-68 (t1/2 = 68 min) or zirconium-89 (t1/2 = 3.3 days). The new complexes were evaluated in an AR42J xenograft model that has endogenous expression of SSTR2. All four agents displayed good tumor uptake and produced high-quality PET images. For both radionuclides, the complexes formed with H3DFOSq-TATE performed better, with higher tumor uptake and retention than the complexes formed with H3DFOSq-TIDE. The long radioactive half-life of zirconium-89 makes distribution of pre-synthesized tracers produced to certified standards feasible and could increase the number of clinical centers that can perform diagnostic PET imaging of neuroendocrine tumors.The zinc blend nonlinear crystal of zinc telluride (ZnTe) is currently one of the most commonly used electro-optical material for terahertz (THz) probe and imaging. We report herein how to engineer the surface behavior of a ZnTe single crystal to design subwavelength structures (SWSs) for enhancing ultrabroadband transmission. Polystyrene (PS) nanoparticle monolayers with a maximum coverage of 85.2% were produced on the ZnTe crystal by an eccentric spin-coating technique combined with surface wettability engineering. Subsequently, the well-defined conical SWS arrays were fabricated on the ZnTe crystal by reactive ion etching over the PS monolayer template, with the size of the SWS arrays customized by optimizing the etching process. Finally, we demonstrated ultrabroadband antireflection on the surface structured ZnTe crystals in the visible-near-infrared, infrared, and terahertz regions with transmittance increase of 11.6%, 10.0%, and 24.8%, which are attributed to the decrease of surface Fresnel reflection by SWS. Notably, in 0.2-1.0 THz, the transmittance reached over 70%. Our work provides a new strategy to enhance the THz generation efficiency and detection sensitivity based on ZnTe crystals by surface engineering.Conventional antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) assays such as broth microdilution and Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion are time-consuming (e.g., 24-72 h) and labor-intensive. Here, we present a microfluidic platform to perform AST assays with a broad range of antibiotic concentrations and controls. A culture medium stream was serially enriched with antibiotics along the length of the platform via diffusion and flow-directing mass convection mechanisms, generating a concentration gradient captured in a series of microchamber duplicates. We observed an agreement between the simulated and experimental concentration gradients and applicability to a variety of different molecules by changing the loading time according to a simple linear equation. The AST assay in our platform is based on bacterial metabolism, indicated by resazurin fluorescence. The small reaction volume enabled a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) to be determined in 4-5 h. Proof-of-concept functionality testing, using human isolates and clinically important antibiotics from different classes, indicated a high rate of agreement (94% MIC within ±1 two-fold dilution of the reference method) of on-chip MICs and conventional broth microdilution.
