Higher-order organisms possess information processing capabilities that are only made possible by their biological complexity. Emerging evidence indicates a critical role for regulatory RNAs in coordinating many aspects of cellular function that are directly involved in experience-dependent neural plasticity. Here, we focus on a structurally distinct class of RNAs known as circular RNAs. These closed loop, single-stranded RNA molecules are highly stable, enriched in the brain, and functionally active in both healthy and disease conditions. Current evidence implicating this ancient class of RNA as a contributor toward higher-order functions such as cognition and memory is discussed.Muscle growth rate and muscle mass are important economic traits in animal production. Musculoskeletal embryonic nuclear protein 1 (MUSTN1) gene has been implicated in myofusion as well as skeletal muscle growth and repair; however, the exact role and expression of MUSTN1 in different duck breeds are not fully understood. To gain insights into the biological functions of MUSTN1 in skeletal muscle development, the MUSTN1 coding sequence of Pekin ducks (BD) and Cherry Valley ducks (CD) was compared to various other animals using the Editseq in DNAstar and MEGA software. The results showed that the duck had the highest homology with chicken. The RT-qPCR and western blot were performed to estimate the mRNA and protein expression pattern of MUSTN1 in leg muscles of BD and CD at 3 and 6-weeks of age. At 3 weeks of age, the mRNA and protein expression levels of MUSTN1 were significantly higher in BD than in CD (p less then 0.05). At 6 weeks, the expression level was higher in BD than in CD. In conclusion, MUSTN1 might play a key role in positive regulation of muscle growth and development of ducks.Cluster headache (CH) is a primary headache (PH) disorder characterized by recurrent attacks of severe/extremely severe unilateral pain and associated symptoms. While less prevalent than other PHs such as migraine, CH impact is substantial given the agonizing pain, negative effect on daily productivity, impaired mental health, and increased costs. Cluster headache is not optimally treated and few clinical trials are available to model therapy, especially dosing and administration. Pharmacists are well positioned to help prescribers and CH individuals with several key opportunities. Subcutaneous sumatriptan (SC SM) lower than the FDA-approved 6 mg per attack, specifically 2 mg and 3 mg, can be considered; literature describes these doses' benefits. Moreover, lower doses may improve patient access to this treatment-of-choice. Despite the SC SM's FDA-approved dose limit of 12 mg per 24 hours, the maximum CH dose has not been examined; this limit merits reevaluation since literature and clinical experience illustrate treatment exceeding this limit. We have previously demonstrated that exogenously administered carlactonoic acid (CLA) was converted to heliolactone in sunflower. The conversion of CLA to heliolactone requires the methyl esterification of the carboxylic acid at C-19. Also, the CLA conversion to its methyl ester, methyl carlactonoate (MeCLA), was demonstrated by feeding experiment in sunflower. However, the involvement of MeCLA in heliolactone biosynthesis remains unclear. We synthesised MeCLA in its racemic form and resolved it into its enantiomers. Feeding experiments revealed that (11R)-MeCLA was exclusively converted to heliolactone in sunflower. This result is an evidence that (11R)-MeCLA is the biosynthetic precursor of heliolactone. Further conversion of heliolactone to an unidentified metabolite with a molecular mass larger than heliolactone by 16 Da was confirmed. The conversion was inhibited by a cytochrome P450 inhibitor, suggesting the involvement of cytochrome P450-dependent monooxygenation. Rationale antibiotic use is crucial to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threats. No study has been undertaken in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) using validated methodologies to document current antibiotic use and areas for improvement given high AMR rates. Point prevalence survey (PPS), using the Global PPS methodology, was conducted among the three major public hospitals in KRG/northern Iraq from September-December 2019. Prevalence and yjr quality of antibiotic use were assessed using agreed indicators. Prevalence of antibiotic use was high (93.7%;n=192/205); with third generation cephalosporins the most commonly prescribed antibiotics (52.6%;n=140/266). Reasons for treatment was recorded for only 61.7% (n=164/266) of antibiotics and high use (89.9%) of parenteral therapy was observed. All therapy was empirical, no stop/review dates were recorded, and no treatment guidelines were available. The majority of the prescribed antibiotics (62%; n=165/266) were from the WHO Watch list. Prevalence of antibiotic use was high not only versus other hospitals in the region but globally including Africa, coupled with significant evidence of sub-optimal prescribing. Swift action is needed to improve future prescribing to reduce AMR. One or two areas should initially be targeted for quality improvement including development of local guidelines, documentation of antibiotic indications and/or stop/review dates. Prevalence of antibiotic use was high not only versus other hospitals in the region but globally including Africa, coupled with significant evidence of sub-optimal prescribing. Swift action is needed to improve future prescribing to reduce AMR.
