Objectives Cocoon immunisation strategies involve administration of Bordetella pertussis containing vaccines to parents and family members who are in close contact with newborns. The objective of this systematic review was to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies to increase uptake of vaccination against Bordetella pertussis infection by parents and family caregivers of newborn children ( less then 3 months of age). Design A protocol driven systematic review was conducted between 2005 and February 2020. CINAHL, Medline, and Google Scholar databases were searched. Consequently, it is inherently assumed the treatment process is GAC-independent. Here, GACs (n = 31) were characterized and used in the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-based adsorption oxidation treatment of 2-chlorophenol (2CP)-spent GAC. The GACs exhibited a range in surface area, pore volume distribution, metals content, surface functionality, and H2O2 reaction. Chloride recovery, the treatment metric for 2CP oxidation, indicated a wide range in oxidation (0-49.2%) where bituminous- and wood-based GAC performed best. A selected subset of GACs (n = 12), amended with iron, methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), and H2O2, exhibited a range in oxidative treatment (1.1-57.9%). Correlations were established between GAC surface functionality, H2O2 reactivity, adsorption, and MTBE oxidation indicating multiple parameters play a collective and compounding role. The order of GACs successfully used in the treatment process is bituminous-based coal > wood > coconut > peat. Multi-purpose platforms (MPPs) can be defined as offshore platforms serving the needs of multiple offshore industries (energy and aquaculture), aim at exploiting the synergies and managing the tensions arising when closely co-locating systems from these industries. Despite a number of previous projects aimed at assessing, from a multidisciplinary point of view, the feasibility of multipurpose platforms, it is here shown that the state-of-the-art has focused mainly on single-purpose devices, and adopting a single discipline (either economic, or social, or technological, or environmental) approach. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to provide a multidisciplinary state of the art review on, whenever possible, multi-purpose platforms, complementing it with single-purpose and/or single discipline literature reviews when not possible. Synoptic tables are provided, giving an overview of the multi-purpose platform concepts investigated, the numerical approaches adopted, and a comprehensive snapshot classifying the references discussed by industry (offshore renewables, aquaculture, both) and by aspect (technological, environmental, socio-economic). The majority of the multi-purpose platform concepts proposed are integrating only multiple offshore renewable energy devices (e.g. hybrid wind-wave), with only few integrating also aquaculture systems. MPPs have significant potential in economizing CAPEX and operational costs for the offshore energy and aquaculture industry by means of concerted spatial planning and sharing of infrastructure.Analysis of the climatology of aerosol properties is performed over Hanle (4500 m) and Merak (4310 m), two remote-background sites in the western trans-Himalayas, based on eleven years (2008-2018) of sun/sky radiometer (POM-01, Prede) measurements. The two sites present very similar atmospheric conditions and aerosol properties allowing us to examine them as continuous single-data series. The annual average aerosol optical depth at 500 nm (AOD500) is 0.04 ± 0.03, associated with an Ångström exponent (AE440-870) of 0.58 ± 0.35 and a single scattering albedo (SSA500) of 0.95 ± 0.05. AOD500 exhibits higher values in May (~0.07) and lower in winter (~0.03), while AE400-870 minimizes in spring, indicating influence by coarse-mode dust aerosols, either emitted regionally or long-range transported. The de-convolution of AOD500 into fine and coarse modes justifies the aerosol seasonality and sources, while the marginal diurnal variation in all aerosol properties reveals a weak influence from local sources, except for some few aerosol episodes. The aerosol-volume size distribution presents a mode value at ~10 μm with secondary peaks at accumulation (~ 2 μm) and fine modes (~0.03 μm) and low variability between the seasons. A classification of the aerosol types based on the fine-mode fraction (FMF) vs. SSA500 relationship reveals the dominance of aerosols in the FMF range of 0.4-0.6, characterized as mixed (39%), followed by fine aerosols with high scattering efficiency (26%), while particles related to dust contribute ~21%, with low fractions of fine-absorbing aerosols (~13%). The aerosol radiative forcing (ARF) estimates reveal a small cooling effect at the top of the atmosphere (-1.3 Wm-2), while at the surface, the ARF ranges from -2 Wm-2 to -6 Wm-2 on monthly basis. The monthly-mean atmospheric radiative forcing (~1 to 4 Wm-2) leads to heating rates of 0.04 to 0.13 K day-1. These ARF values are higher than the global averages and may cause climate implications over the trans-Himalayan region.
