https://www.selleckchem.com/products/oxidopamine-hydrobromide.html e., the pollutant showed a degradation rate in urine higher than in distilled water). The sonochemical process decreased the antimicrobial activity from the treated water (100% removal after 75 min of treatment), which was related to attacks of hydroxyl radical on active nucleus (the computational analysis showed high electron density on sulfur, oxygen and carbon atoms belonging to the penicillin core). Sono-photo-Fenton system achieved the fastest degradation and highest mineralization of the pollutant (40% of organic carbon removal at 180 min of treatment). All these aspects reveal the good possibility of sonochemical advanced oxidation technologies application for the treatment of antibiotics even in complex aqueous matrices such as hydrolyzed urine. Activated persulfate, as a member of the broad group of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs), has emerged as a promising method for the elimination of microorganisms in aqueous matrices. This study evaluates the disinfection efficiency of this technique with respect to the inactivation of Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis in water samples, as representative Gram negative and Gram positive bacterial indicators, respectively. In this perspective, various activators were employed, namely, ferric ion, heating, ultrasound application and UVA irradiation, which exhibited different bactericidal effect, depending on the operating conditions and the structural properties of each species. The highest disinfection rates were achieved with 200 mg/L of persulfate and ferric ion or heating as activators. For instance, 6 Log reductions were recorded within only 10-15 min when 30 mg/L of iron were applied, whereas the same bacterial removal was noted upon heat-activation at 50 °C, but in longer periods (i.e. 45-60 miunder stressed conditions. Taking into account the high mobility and environmental risks due to sulfonamide antibiotics as emerging pollutants, b
