Without evidence of hybrid disadvantage, we suggest a novel hybrid lineage might eventually result from the merging of these two species.We present the case of a 73-year-old male patient undergoing a modified Bentall-DeBono procedure in 2015 due to aortic stenosis and aortic aneurism involving the root. A bioprosthetic stented conduit made with a stented Edwards Perimount 21-mm bioprosthesis and a Vascutek Valsalva 28-mm Dacron graft was implanted along with a mitral annuloplasty. Five years later, due to early degeneration of the bioprosthesis and a progression of the mitral disease, he underwent a second surgical procedure where a Medtronic Mosaic 27-mm valve prosthesis was implanted in mitral position and a sutureless Livanova Perceval 23-mm valve in aortic position. Because of the difficulty in removing the previously implanted aortic prosthesis, the Perceval valve was inserted inside the frame of the PeriMount as an open "valve-in-valve" procedure. The child underwent pulmonary vegetectomy with ventricular septal defect closure and left lower lobe pulmonary lobectomy via midline sternotomy.Shift workers experience chronic circadian misalignment, which can manifest itself in reduced melatonin production, and has been associated with metabolic disorders. In addition, chronotype modulates the effect of night shift work, with early types presenting greater circadian misalignment when working night shift as compared to late types. Melatonin supplementation has shown positive results reducing weight gain in animal models, but the effect of exogenous melatonin in humans on body weight in the context of shift work remains inconsistent. The aim of this study was thus to evaluate the effects of exogenous melatonin on circadian misalignment and body weight among overweight night shift workers, according to chronotype, under real-life conditions. Robotic coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) has developed in recent decades, however, prior studies showed conflicting result of robotic CABG compared to nonrobotic CABG in terms of mortality, morbidity, and cost. Herein, we sought to analyze the in-hospital outcomes and health care utilization after robotic CABG compared to nonrobotic CABG, based on data from a nationally representative sample. Patients who underwent CABG were identified using the national inpatient sample. Endpoints were in-hospital outcomes, length of stay, and total cost. Procedure-related complications were identified via international classification of diseases (ICD)-9 and ICD-10 coding and propensity score matching analysis was performed. A total of 1,204,125 weighted adults underwent nonrobotic CABG and 7355 underwent robotic CABG in the United States between 2012 and 2017. The comparison of 7330 pairs after propensity score matching showed that in-hospital mortality was higher for those who underwent nonrobotic CABG compared to those who underwent robotic CABG (2.1% vs. 1.1%, p = .029). Similarly, the rates of acute kidney injury, transfusion, postoperative hemorrhage, length of stay, and total cost were higher for nonrobotic CABG compared to robotic CABG (all p < .05). The proportions of routine discharges with (34.5% vs. 40.0%) or without (39.7% vs. 45.0%) home health care were higher among those who underwent robotic, whereas the proportion of transfer to skilled nursing facility/nursing home was more frequent for cases of nonrobotic CABG (22.4% vs. 13.4%). Robotic CABG was associated with lower rates of in-hospital mortality, acute kidney injury, transfusion, postoperative hemorrhage, total cost, and shorter hospital stay compared to nonrobotic CABG. Lymphomas in the oral and oropharyngeal regions are relatively uncommon, and their diagnosis is challenging and complex due to the myriad histopathological subtypes. Herein, we report a large series of oral and oropharyngeal lymphomas and compare our data with the currently available literature. All cases diagnosed as lymphomas affecting the oral and oropharyngeal regions were retrospectively retrieved from seven Brazilian institutions. Clinicodemographic data and histopathological features were evaluated and described, while a comprehensive literature review was undertaken in order to compare our findings. A total of 304 cases of oral and oropharyngeal lymphomas were obtained, mostly affecting individuals aged 60-69years (n=68) with a mean age at diagnosis of 54.2±20.1years. Males and females were equally affected. Mature B-cell neoplasms (87.2%) were the most common group, followed by mature T- and NK-cell neoplasms (11.2%) and precursor lymphoid neoplasms (1.6%). The most frequent subtypes in each group were diffuse large B-cell lymphomas, not otherwise specified (n=99), extranodal NK/T-cell lymphomas, nasal type (n=12), and B-lymphoblastic leukaemia/lymphomas, not otherwise specified (n=4).
