Future studies should explore how VHA care providers refer veterans to LTC settings.As early intervention is highly effective for young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), it is imperative to make accurate diagnosis as early as possible. ASD has often been associated with atypical visual attention and eye gaze data can be collected at a very early age. An automatic screening tool based on eye gaze data that could identify ASD risk offers the opportunity for intervention before the full set of symptoms is present. In this paper, we propose two machine learning methods, synthetic saccade approach and image based approach, to automatically classify ASD given children's eye gaze data collected from free-viewing tasks of natural images. The first approach uses a generative model of synthetic saccade patterns to represent the baseline scan-path from a typical non-ASD individual and combines it with the real scan-path as well as other auxiliary data as inputs to a deep learning classifier. The second approach adopts a more holistic image-based approach by feeding the input image and a sequence of fixation maps into a convolutional or recurrent neural network. Using a publicly-accessible collection of children's gaze data, our experiments indicate that the ASD prediction accuracy reaches 67.23% accuracy on the validation dataset and 62.13% accuracy on the test dataset.X-ray-activated near-infrared luminescent nanoparticles are considered as new alternative optical probes due to being free of autofluorescence, while both their excitation and emission possess a high penetration efficacy in vivo. Herein, we report silicon carbide quantum dot sensitization of trivalent chromium-doped zinc gallate nanoparticles with enhanced near-infrared emission upon X-ray and UV-vis light excitation. We have found that a ZnGa2O4 shell is formed around the SiC nanoparticles during seeded hydrothermal growth, and SiC increases the emission efficiency up to 1 order of magnitude due to band alignment that channels the excited electrons to the chromium ion.Recovering low-rank structures via eigenvector perturbation analysis is a common problem in statistical machine learning, such as in factor analysis, community detection, ranking, matrix completion, among others. While a large variety of bounds are available for average errors between empirical and population statistics of eigenvectors, few results are tight for entrywise analyses, which are critical for a number of problems such as community detection. This paper investigates entrywise behaviors of eigenvectors for a large class of random matrices whose expectations are low-rank, which helps settle the conjecture in Abbe et al. (2014b) that the spectral algorithm achieves exact recovery in the stochastic block model without any trimming or cleaning steps. The key is a first-order approximation of eigenvectors under the ℓ ∞ norm u k ≈ A u k * λ k * , where u k and u k * are eigenvectors of a random matrix A and its expectation E A , respectively. The fact that the approximation is both tight and linear in A facilitates sharp comparisons between u k and u k * . In particular, it allows for comparing the signs of u k and u k * even if ‖ u k - u k * ‖ ∞ is large. The results are further extended to perturbations of eigenspaces, yielding new ℓ ∞-type bounds for synchronization ( ℤ 2 -spiked Wigner model) and noisy matrix completion.Optical photothermal infrared (O-PTIR) and Raman spectroscopy and imaging was used to explore the spatial distributions of molecular constituents of a laminate sample consisting of the bioplastics, polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) and polylactic acid (PLA), near the interfacial boundary. Highly spatially resolved simultaneous IR and Raman spectra were sequentially collected at 100 nm increments along a line traversing the interface. The set of spectra were subjected to 2D-COS analysis to extract the detailed nature of the spatial distribution of the laminate constituents. It was revealed that the laminate is not a simple binary system of two non-interacting polymers, but consists of different constituents with more complex spatial distributions. Some portion of PLA seems to penetrate into the PHA layer. The crystallinity of PHA near the interface is reduced compared to the rest of the PHA layer. The result suggests the existence of some partial molecular mixing even for these seemingly immiscible polymer pairs. The mixing probably occurs at the segmental level confined to only several hundred nanometers of space at the interface. Such partial mixing may explain the high compatibility between the two bioplastics.A method for the regioselective 1,2-arylboration of 1,3-butadiene, a feedstock chemical, is reported.
