Significantly impaired oculomotor test scores were found in NDDG compared with CG (p less then 0.001), with no significant differences between OAG and NDDG (p ≥ 0.063). The comparison between the three types of neurodevelopmental disorders included revealed the presence of a significantly lower amplitude of accommodation in children with DCD compared with dyslexics. Furthermore, less exophoria at near was present in children with dyslexia compared with children with ADHD (p = 0.018) and DCD (p = 0.054). In conclusion, children with dyslexia, ADHD and DCD show an altered oculomotor pattern and a more reduced amplitude of accommodation, not always compatible with the diagnostic criteria of an accommodative insufficiency. Accommodative and binocular vision problems are not always present in these children and cannot be considered an etiologic factor.This study developed a novel chair-side tongue pressure (TP) measuring instrument with a disposable positioning mouthpiece controlled using a smartphone application (APP), denoted as the TP wireless application (TPWA). The mouthpiece was designed with a palate-shaped air balloon containing a tongue contact bump and a plastic bite positioning tube. Fatigue load testing was performed to evaluate mouthpiece durability by applying 700 displacement cycles (50 times a day for one week during training, with twice the safety factor) on the air balloon. The main component used in developing this instrument was a silicon pressure sensor equipped with wireless Bluetooth connection. Young (52 adults; mean age = 20.23 ± 2.17) and elderly (40 adults; mean age = 72.60 ± 7.03) individuals participated in the test with the new instrument, with the results compared to those of a commercial device. The TPWA mouthpiece fatigue test showed that mean response pressures were maintained at 12 kPa. No significant (p > 0.05) differences were found during testing repetitions 0-10 and 701-710. There were no significant differences in the maximum TP values presented between the test sequences using different instruments for young and elderly participants. The TPWA results showed that TP values gradually decreased with increasing age (40.77 kPa for young and 16.55 kPa for elderly participants). The maximum TP for males (43.51 kPa) was significantly larger than that for females (35.14 kPa) in the young group, but an opposite trend was seen in the elderly group (12.97 for males and 17.59 for females). Besides the advantages of using such bio-originated materials, the use of collagen matrices increases the risk of infection transmission through the cells or the tissues of the graft/scaffold. In addition, such collagen-based solutions are not counted as economically feasible approaches due to their high production cost. In recent years, incorporation of marine algae in synthetic polymers has been considered as an alternative method for preparation grafts/scaffolds since they represent abundant and cheap source of potential biopolymers. Current work aims to propose a novel composite patch prepared by blending Sargassum vulgare powders (SVP) to polylactide (PLA) as an alternative to the porcine-derived membranes. SVP-PLA composite patches were produced by using a modified solvent casting method. Following detailed material characterization to assess the cytocompatibility, human osteoblasts (HOBs) and osteosarcoma cells (SaOS-2) were seeded on neat PLA and SVP-PLA patches. MTT and BrdU assays indicated a greater cytocompatibility and higher proliferation for HOBs cultured on SVP-PLA composite than for those cultured on neat PLA. SaOS-2 cells cultured on SVP-PLA exhibited a significant decrease in cell proliferation. The composite patch described herein exhibits an antiproliferative effect against SaOS-2 cells without impairing HOBs' adhesion and proliferation.Heat shock 70kDa proteins (HSP70s) and their cochaperones DNAJs are ubiquitous molecular chaperones, which function as the "HSP70/DNAJ machinery" in a myriad of biological processes. At present, a number of HSP70s have been classified in many species, but studies on DNAJs, especially in insects, are lacking. Here, we first systematically identified and characterized the HSP70 and DNAJ family members in the brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens, a destructive rice pest in Asia. A total of nine HSP70 and 31 DNAJ genes were identified in the BPH genome. Sequence and phylogenetic analyses revealed the high diversity of the NlDNAJ family. Additionally, spatio-temporal expression analysis showed that most NlHSP70 and NlDNAJ genes were highly expressed in the adult stage and gonads. Furthermore, RNA interference (RNAi) revealed that seven NlHSP70s and 10 NlDNAJs play indispensable roles in the nymphal development, oogenesis, and female fertility of N. lugens under physiological growth conditions; in addition, one HSP70 (NlHSP68) was found to be important in the thermal tolerance of eggs. In this work, we propose using a graph convolutional network and artistic comments rather than the painting color to classify type, school, timeframe and author of the paintings by implementing natural language processing (NLP) techniques. First, we build a single artistic comment graph based on co-occurrence relations and document word relations and then train an art graph convolutional network (ArtGCN) on the entire corpus. The nodes, which include the words and documents in the topological graph are initialized using a one-hot representation; then, the embeddings are learned jointly for both words and documents, supervised by the known-class training labels of the paintings. Through extensive experiments on different classification tasks using different input sources, we demonstrate that the proposed methods achieve state-of-art performance.
