Available from http//slctr.lk/trials/515. © The Author(s). 2020.Background Rhinitis was the most frequently diagnosed disorder among users of humidifier disinfectants (HDs). The aim of our study was to investigate on the relationship between allergic rhinitis (AR) and HD uses. Methods Our study used the data from the eighth Panel Study on Korean Children; a total of 1,540 participants were enrolled. The χ2 test and multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted to debunk the association between AR and HD uses. Results In our analysis, odds ratios (ORs) of doctor-diagnosed AR increased significantly when simply the response of whether HDs were used in the past was considered. When the brands of HD were considered, ORs of doctor-diagnosed AR were found to be increased significantly for those who have used polyhexamethylene guanidine phosphate/oligo(2-[2-ethoxy]-ethoxyethyl)guanidinium-containing HDs (model 3 1.41, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.02-1.95). However, once duration of usage was additionally considered, ORs of doctor-diagnosed AR increased significantly only for those who have used chloromethylisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone-containing HDs for more than or equal to 3 months (model 3 2.08, 95% CI 1.17-3.69). Further, past use of HD was associated with significantly increased ORs of AR diagnosed before 2013 (model 3 1.35, 95% CI 1.02-1.79). Conclusions Results of our study suggest that past uses of HDs may be associated with an increased risk of AR. Methods An observational cohort study included 64 critically ill surgical patients who were eligible for extubation. Before initiating the spontaneous breathing trial, the TFC was measured using the electrical cardiometry technology. Patients were followed up after extubation and divided into successful weaning group and failed weaning group. Both groups were compared according to respiratory and cardiovascular parameters. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed to evaluate the ability of TFC to predict weaning outcome. Results The number of successfully weaned patients was 41/64 (64%). Twenty (31%) patients had impaired cardiac contractility, and of them, 13/20 (64%) patients were successfully extubated. Both groups, successful weaning group and failed weaning group, were comparable in most of baseline characteristics; however, the TFC was significantly higher in the failed weaning group compared to the successful weaning group. The area under the ROC curves (AUCs) showed moderate predictive ability for the TFC in predicting weaning failure (AUC [95% confidence interval] 0.69 [0.57-0.8], cutoff value > 50 kΩ-1), while the predictive ability of TFC was excellent in the subgroup of patients with ejection fraction 50 kΩ-1). Conclusions Thoracic fluid content showed moderate ability for predicting weaning outcome in surgical critically ill patients. However, in the subgroup of patients with ejection fraction less than 40%, TFC above 50 kΩ-1 has an excellent ability to predict weaning failure. © The Author(s) 2020.Background Substantial resources have been invested in evidence-based practice (EBP) implementation in community settings; however, research suggests that EBPs do not always sustain over time. Method This qualitative study explored the perspectives of 13 community behavioral health agency leaders regarding the sustainability of an EBP 25 to 28 months following the original training period. Administrators from 10 agencies were interviewed to understand the complexities of the implementation process, sustainability of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and their recommendations to enhance implementation and sustainability. Results A content analysis revealed five emergent themes treatment model opinions, resource concerns, staff selection/ turnover, population characteristics, and recommendations for future implementation. Conclusions These themes likely would be helpful in informing the design of future implementation and sustainability initiatives sensitive to the challenges of integrating EBPs in community settings. © The Author(s). 2020.Background The feeding preferences of Diabrotica speciosa (Coleoptera Chrysomelidae) cause a parent-offspring conflict, as providing the best host for the offspring development is detrimental to adult survival and fecundity. Understanding the implications of this conflict could help entomologists to implement pest-management programs. With this in mind, the foraging behaviour of D. speciosa was investigated using an individual-based model in two distinct scenarios. Methods In an intercropping scenario, parent-offspring conflict was simulated when adult insects exploit two crops (corn and soybean) that provide different nutritional advantages for each insect stage. First, we compared three hypothetical types of adult dispersal, considering a continuous oviposition over time diffusion, attracted to a fixed host and alternating the preference between hosts with frequency 1 τ , where τ is the time in days spent foraging for each host. We also simulated two principles "mother knows best" (adult females foraging fofits population fitness. In the landscape scenario, arranging crop plots more heterogeneously and avoiding vast areas of soybean can help farmers to control this insect pest.
