https://www.frydge.uk/articles/beginners-guide-to-frost-free-fridge-freezers The Benefits of a Frost Free Freezer Fridge Frost-free freezer fridges eliminate the need for manual defrosting. This is achieved periodically by heating a coil, which allows any ice melt. The water is then drained away into an empty drain pan before it evaporates in the air and keeps the freezer free of frost. This is similar to how the majority of refrigerators operate. Effortless Defrost If you have refrigerator freezers that need to be defrosted manually, a regular process that involves disconnecting the appliance, taking out all food items, and laying down newspaper, then you'll understand how long and cumbersome this can be. The good news is that you don't need to endure this anymore with the frost-free freezer fridge because these models utilize intelligent cooling technology to reduce ice buildup and keep your food at optimum temperatures without the need for manual defrosting. Frost-free freezers are operated by an electric heating system that periodically melts any ice crystals that form on the freezer’s evaporator coil. These are then drained to remove water. This stops the accumulation of ice on the coil and preventing air flow, which could in turn lower temperatures and could cause food spoilage. Some brands provide an auto-defrost feature where the freezer will automatically heat up to melt the frost before allowing it to drain it out of a drip pan. This is usually done during the defrost cycle of the refrigerator which occurs every few hours. Some brands have a defrost thermostat that shuts off the heater when it determines that the evaporator has been completely defrosted. A defrost heater that is integrated into the fan motor of the refrigerator is another method of ensuring a frost free fridge. This is activated via the defrost detector and works similarly to the auto-defrost heating element. This method isn't as efficient as frost-free refrigerators, but it is cheaper to
