4 × 10-5 ) and in patients with major depressive disorder (best SNP FDR-corrected p = 2.6 × 10-3 ). The alleles associated with lower VEGF concentrations in patients were also associated with nonresponse to electroconvulsive therapy (p = .01). These results confirm a role of SNPs in 6p21.1 locus as major influencers of circulating VEGF levels also in patients affected by major depressive disorder and indicate a possible implication in response to electroconvulsive therapy. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Verruca vulgaris is a common, benign infection of the skin and mucous membranes caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Although many therapeutic options for warts exist, they have limited efficacy and there is no definitive cure for warts. We report the case of a 10-year-old girl with recalcitrant cutaneous warts persisting more than two years which resolved completely following vaccination with the nine-valent HPV vaccine. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Solid-state continuous wave (cw) electronic paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy is particularly suitable for metal complex analysis. Extracting magnetic parameters by simulation is often necessary to describe the electronic structure of the studied molecular compounds that can have various electronic spin states and characterized by different parameters like g-values, hyperfine coupling or zero field splitting values. Easyspin toolbox on MATLAB is a powerful tool, but for the user, it requires spending time with coding and could discourage nonexperts. Facing this context, we have developed a graphical user interface called Simultispin, dedicated to solid-state cw-EPR spectra simulation. Some examples of experimental spectra of metal complexes (mixture of low spin and high spin FeIII complexes, dynamic disorder of a CuII complex, photogeneration of a MnIII complex), highlighting specific solid-state functions, are described and analyzed based on simulations performed with Simultispin. We hope that its ergonomy and the ease to set up a complete set of parameters to get reliable simulations could help a large EPR community to improve the efficiency of their interpretations. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.Botryomycosis is a rare chronic suppurative granulomatous infection caused by several genera of non-filamentous bacteria. The clinical and histopathological findings are similar to those of mycetoma caused by true fungi or aerobic actinomycetes. Botryomycosis is divided into cutaneous and visceral disease, with the cutaneous form being more common. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/puromycin-aminonucleoside.html Histopathology shows granules of etiologic bacteria called "sulfur granules". Botryomycosis occurs more commonly among immunocompromised patients, although some cases have also been reported in immunocompetent patients. We report the case of an 8-year-old immunocompetent boy who visited our hospital with a 4-mm diameter subcutaneous tumor with mild tenderness on his right heel for several months. We surgically removed the tumor with an initial diagnosis of epidermal cyst. Histopathology showed sulfur granules surrounded by an eosinophilic matrix, indicating the Splendore-Hoeppli phenomenon. The granules consisted of Gram-positive cocci, leading to a diagnosis of botryomycosis. The patient was successfully treated by excision and oral trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (240 mg b.i.d.) for 2 weeks as adjuvant therapy. No recurrence was noted following treatment. The subcutaneous tumor in this case was smaller than the typical in botryomycosis infections. We reviewed the infection duration and tumor size in reported cases of botryomycosis in immunocompetent patients. Small tumor size may suggest that the case is in an early stage; therefore, it is important to remove and investigate these lesions proactively. © 2020 Japanese Dermatological Association. The role of circulatory steroid hormone along with melatonin in lung of any seasonally breeding bird has never been explored so far. This could be interesting because steroid hormones are immunosuppressive while melatonin is immunostimulatory in nature. In our present study, we report the effect of exogenous melatonin and testosterone on expression of melatonin receptor subtypes (Mel1a and Mel1b ) and androgen receptor in lung of a tropical bird Perdicula asiatica. Birds were collected from vicinity of Varanasi and acclimatized in laboratory with sufficient food and water. The birds were treated with melatonin and testosterone at dose of 25 µg/100 g B.wt./day and 1 mg/100 g B.wt./day, respectively, for 28 days. At the end of the experiment, the birds were sacrificed and lung tissue and blood sample were collected for immunohistochemistry, Western blot analysis and hormonal assay. Testosterone treatment increased circulatory testosterone and upregulated expression of androgen receptors whereas downregulated expression of melatonin receptor subtypes Mel1a and Mel1b . Melatonin administration increased peripheral melatonin and upregulated expression of melatonin receptor subtypes Mel1a and Mel1b while downregulated androgen receptor. Thus, our results suggest that a trade-off relationship between melatonin and testosterone exists in regulation of their receptors in lung of Perdicula asiatica. © 2020 Blackwell Verlag GmbH.This study aimed to assess the protective effect of nitroglycerin, a commonly used drug in cardiovascular diseases, on mice with acute liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4 ). The mice were randomly divided into three groups control, CCl4 , and CCl4  + nitroglycerin. They were killed at 0, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h after treatment. Blood and liver tissue samples were collected for analysis. Analysis of the amounts of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT)/aspartate aminotransferase (AST), hepatic glutathione (GSH), and malondialdehyde (MDA) showed that nitroglycerin protected against CCl4 -induced acute liver injury. Liver histological analysis provided further evidence of the protective effect of nitroglycerin. Furthermore, we found that nitroglycerin suppressed the increase of T helper 17 (Th17) cells in CCl4 -induced acute liver injury mice. The results indicate that nitroglycerin is a potential candidate for hepatic disease. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
