As a typical family of two-dimensional (2D) materials, MXenes present physiochemical properties and potential for use in energy storage applications. However, MXenes suffer some of the inherent disadvantages of 2D materials, such as severe restacking during processing and service and low capacity of energy storage. Herein, a MXene@N-doped carbonaceous nanofiber structure is designed as the anode for high-performance sodium- and potassium-ion batteries through an in situ bioadsorption strategy; that is, Ti3C2T x nanosheets are assembled onto Aspergillus niger biofungal nanoribbons and converted into a 2D/1D heterostructure. This microorganism-derived 2D MXene-1D N-doped carbonaceous nanofiber structure with fully opened pores and transport channels delivers high reversible capacity and long-term stability to store both Na+ (349.2 mAh g-1 at 0.1A g-1 for 1000 cycles) and K+ (201.5 mAh g-1 at 1.0 A g-1 for 1000 cycles). Ion-diffusion kinetics analysis and density functional theory calculations reveal that this porous hybrid structure promotes the conduction and transport of Na and K ions and fully utilizes the inherent advantages of the 2D material. Here we show that a single layer of hexagonal Cu2Te crystal could be synthesized by one-step liquid-solid interface growth and exfoliation. Characterizations of atomically resolved scanning tunneling microscope reveal that the Cu2Te monolayer consists of two lattice-matched distinct phases, similar to the 1T and 1T' phases of MX2. The scanning tunneling spectra identify the coexistence of the metallic 1T and semiconducting 1T' phases within the chemically homogeneous Cu2Te crystals, as confirmed by density functional theory calculations. Moreover, the two phases could form nanoscale lattice-matched metal-semiconductor junctions with atomically sharp interfaces. To increase lifetime, adsorbates on the surface of a plasmonic metal may create preferential states for electrons to be excited from. We demonstrate this effect with O adsorbates on a nanoporous gold electrode. Nanoporous gold is used to obtain a broadband optical response, to increase the obtained photocurrent, and to provide a SERS-active substrate. Only with adsorbates present, we observe significant photocurrents. Illumination also increases the adsorbate coverage above its dark potential-dependent equilibrium, as derived from a two-laser in situ SERS approach. Density functional theory calculations confirm the appearance of excitable states below the Fermi level. The photocurrent enhancement and broadband characteristics reveal the potential of the plasmonic approach to improve the efficiency of photoelectrochemical water splitting. Antibiotics in Spain are mainly prescribed in the community sector, remarking a high variability between areas. The aim of this study is to describe the variability between health areas in the antibiotic consumption in the pediatric population of Asturias during 2005-2018 period. Retrospective and comparative study using data about consumption of antibacterial agents for systemic use (J01C group in ATC, Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical, classification) in the pediatric outpatients of the eight health areas of Principado de Asturias between 2005 and 2018, based on defined daily dose (DDD) per 1000 inhabitants and day (DID). Mean antibiotic consumption in pediatric outpatients in Principado de Asturias (2005-2018) was 14 DID (CI95% 13.4 - 14.6). Consumption increased until 2009 (15.2 DID) and decreased from 2015 onwards (11.9 DID in 2018). β-lactam penicillins was the most consumed therapeutic group (10.7 DID). There were statistically significant differences among the areas with the highest and the lowest consumption rates (Avilés, 19 DID; Oviedo, 11.5 DID). A high variability between health areas was observed when analysing data temporally (difference of 11.8 DID in 2011) and therapeutic groups. The consumption of macrolides in Langreo health area and quinolones in Jarrio health area were 2.3 and 4.1 times higher, respectively, comparing to Gijón health area. Uncontrolled donors after circulatory death (DCD) are an extraordinary resource to increase the number of lungs available for transplantation. However, the risk of the warm ischemia resulting from cardiac arrest to irreversibly damage the organs is considerable. Moreover, graft preservation issues and organizational problems often worsen the dangerous effects of warm ischemia. Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) enables to evaluate and recondition lungs whose functionality is doubtful, as well as to overcome the difficulties related to time and logistics. We report the case of uncontrolled DCD lungs successfully treated with an exceptionally prolonged EVLP. Since the donor's blood count and liver biopsy showed signs of a possible leukaemia, EVLP was protracted up to seventeen hours while waiting for immunohistochemical analyses to rule out this diagnosis; eventually, the results came back negative and lungs were judged suitable for transplantation. The recipient was a 32-year old male with cystic fibrosis, colonized by Pandoraea pnomenusa.
