The diagnosis of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) relies on the positivity of nasopharyngeal swab. However, a significant percentage of symptomatic patients may test negative. We evaluated the reliability of COVID-19 diagnosis made by radiologists and clinicians and its accuracy versus serology in a sample of patients hospitalized for suspected COVID-19 with multiple negative swabs. Admission chest CT-scans and clinical records of swab-negative patients, treated according to the COVID-19 protocol or deceased during hospitalization, were retrospectively evaluated by two radiologists and two clinicians, respectively. Of 254 patients, 169 swab-confirmed cases and one patient without chest CT-scan were excluded. A total of 84 patients were eligible for the reliability study. Of these, 21 patients died during hospitalization; the remaining 63 underwent serological testing and were eligible for the accuracy evaluation. Of the 63, 26 patients showed anti-Sars-Cov-2 antibodies, while 37 did not. The inter-rater agreement was "substantial" (kappa 0.683) between radiologists, "moderate" (kappa 0.454) between clinicians, and only "fair" (kappa 0.341) between radiologists and clinicians. Both radiologic and clinical evaluations showed good accuracy compared to serology. The radiologic and clinical diagnosis of COVID-19 for swab-negative patients proved to be sufficiently reliable and accurate to allow a diagnosis of COVID-19, which needs to be confirmed by serology and follow-up. Independent older residents aged ≥ 65 years in 10 nursing homes were included in this study, which was conducted in Kitakyushu, Japan. For 8 months, follow-up dates on which the body temperatures of participants were more than 37.2 °C were noted. Trypsin-like activity in the oral cavity was detected by ADCHECK® with five-grade evaluation at baseline. Data from 53 independent participants with median age 89.0 (67–102) years were available for analysis. ADCHECK® scores were associated with fever days (r = 0.312, p = 0.029). The average periods until the onset of fever in participants with ADCHECK® Scores 1 and 2, Score 3, and Scores 4 and 5 were 6.6 ± 0.5, 5.0 ± 0.7, and 4.1 ± 1.0 months, respectively. ADCHECK® Scores 4 and 5 signified a higher risk of fever compared to ADCHECK® Scores 1 and 2 (hazards ratio 5.9, 95% confidence interval 1.4–23.9, p = 0.013), adjusted for possible confounders. We concluded that trypsin-like activity in the oral cavity was associated with the risk of fever in independent older residents of nursing homes.A growing body of work has been devoted to studying the smartphone addiction in youths and its impact on their lives, but less is known about the predictors and effects of youth habitual use of smartphones. Guided by social cognitive theory, this study investigates how habitual smartphone use affects sleep quality and everyday memory based on a nationally representative sample of Chinese students (N = 2298). It uses a cluster-randomized sampling with stratification of different areas, consisting of both urban and rural students aged 6-18 years from elementary, middle, and high schools across China. It found that Chinese students exhibited a habitual smartphone use, who were generally confident in using mobile devices, but few had smartphone addiction. Significant gender and age differences were identified concerning the habitual use of smartphone. Specifically, boys demonstrated higher levels of habitual use and smartphone self-efficacy than the girls. High school students showed the highest level of habitual smartphone use compared to those in elementary and middle schools. Smartphone use duration, frequency, and self-efficacy predicted the habitual use, which also led to poorer sleep quality and worse memory outcomes. Prebedtime exposure moderated the relationship between habitual smartphone uses and sleep quality. The results show that students' habitual smartphone use had a significant impact on their health, cognition and more, even when they exhibited little smartphone addiction. The findings contribute to a better understanding of smartphone impact on school-age youths.Somatic copy number aberrations (CNAs) have been associated with clear-cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC) pathogenesis and are a potential source of new diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic biomarkers. Recurrent CNAs include loss of chromosome arms 3p, 14q, 9p, and gains of 5q and 8q. Some of these regional CNAs are suspected of altering gene expression and could influence clinical outcomes. Despite many studies of CNAs in RCC, there are currently no descriptions of genomic copy number alterations in a Brazilian ccRCC cohort. This study was designed to evaluate the chromosomal profile of CNAs in Brazilian ccRCC tumors and explore clinical associations. A total of 92 ccRCC Brazilian patients that underwent nephrectomy at Barretos Cancer Hospital were analyzed for CNAs by array comparative genomic hybridization. Most patients in the cohort had early-stage localized disease. The most significant alterations were loss of 3p (87.3%), 14q (35.8%), 6q (29.3%), 9p (28.6%) and 10q (25.0%), and gains of 5q (59.7%), 7p (29.3%) and 16q (20.6%). Bioinformatics analysis revealed 19 genes mapping to CNA significant regions, including SETD2, BAP1, FLT4, PTEN, FGFR4 and NSD1. Moreover, gain of 5q34-q35.3 (FLT4 and NSD1) and loss of 6q23.2-q23.3 (MYB) and 9p21.3 (MLLT3) had gene expression levels that correlated with TCGA data and was also associated with advanced disease features, such as larger tumors, Fuhrman 3, metastasis at diagnosis and death. The loss of region 14q22.1 which encompasses the NIN gene was associated with poor overall survival.
