In a recent PhD study, I checked out the importance of dress to youths' daily lives. I discovered that ladies' experiences of ageing and placing themselves on their life course are moderated by the clothing they wear. Ladies' valued and treasured clothing is a way through which they can build a sense of themselves as 'older'. I discovered that ladies' experience of the passage of time heightens the significance of special clothing and permits them to explore a hyper-feminine identity for one brief, socially sanctioned moment.

To answer this question, I spoke with 21 ladies of all ages who wore and took care of their favourite clothing.
