High levels of infiltration by both OX40+ and CD16+ cells were associated with lower pT stage, absence of peritumoral lymphocytic (PTL) inflammation, and a positive prognostic impact. Patients bearing tumors with high infiltration by CD16+ and OX40+ cells were also characterized by significantly longer overall survival, as compared with the other groups. These results were confirmed by analyzing an independent validation cohort. CONCLUSIONS Combined infiltration by OX40+ and CD16+ immune cells is an independent favorable prognostic marker in CRC. The prognostic value of CD16+ immune cell infiltration is significantly improved by the combined analysis with OX40+ cell infiltration. Our purpose was to examine the beliefs of college students about UV exposure and sunscreen use and their associations with skin cancer risk and protective behaviors in a cloudy climate. The sample was online survey participants (N = 334) recruited from a large university in Oregon. After fitting an initial measurement model, we fit a structural equation model including Health Beliefs About UV (HBAU) subscales (Health Benefits of Tanning, Seasonal Effects, Tanning Through the Winter, and Sunscreen Toxicity), outcome variables (sunscreen use, indoor tanning, and outdoor tanning), and covariates (eg, tanning and sunscreen use). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ici-118551-ici-118-551.html A minority of participants held the beliefs represented by 3 HBAU subscales, but beliefs about negative health effects of the local weather (Tanning Through the Winter) were common. The measurement and adjusted models provided good fit to the data (χ2 = 143.30; P = .29; df = 136; Root-Mean Square Error of Approximation = .014; Comparative Fit Index = .992; Tucker-Lewis Index = .981). After adjusting for covariates, Sunscreen Toxicity predicted reduced sunscreen use (β = -.12, P = .021), Health Benefits of Tanning predicted outdoor tanning (β = .43, P less then .001), and Tanning Through the Winter predicted indoor tanning (β = .31, P = .02). The small sample size, nonresponse rate, and cross-sectional nature of this study mean these findings should be interpreted cautiously. Beliefs about health benefits of sun exposure, the regional weather, and sunscreen safety play a role in skin cancer risk and protective behaviors.BACKGROUND Insulin degludec/liraglutide (IDegLira) results in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels comparable with basal-bolus (BB) therapy. Here, we assessed the effect of once-daily IDegLira compared with BB (once-daily insulin glargine 100 U/mL and insulin aspart ≤4 times/day) across subgroups with varying characteristics. MATERIALS AND METHODS DUAL VII trial participants (type 2 diabetes [T2D], HbA1c 53-86 mmol/mol [7.0%-10.0%]) were subgrouped post hoc based on the following baseline characteristics HbA1c (≤58.5, >58.5 to ≤69.4, and >69.4 mmol/mol; ≤7.5%, >7.5 to ≤8.5%, and >8.5%), body mass index (69.4 mmol/mol [23.8% vs 3.4%]). CONCLUSION These results support initiating IDegLira in patients with varying baseline characteristics and uncontrolled T2D on basal insulin. CLINICALTRIALS.GOV REGISTRATION NCT02420262.BACKGROUND The FIRE-3 phase III clinical trial demonstrated the marked advantage of prolonging the median overall survival of patients with final RAS wild-type (WT) left-sided metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) by 38.3 months after treatment with irinotecan, fluorouracil, and leucovorin (FOLFIRI) plus cetuximab and by 28.0 months after treatment with FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab. However, the substantial cost increase and economic impact of using cetuximab imposes a considerable burden on patients and society. METHODS A Markov model based on the data collected in the FIRE-3 trial was developed to investigate the cost-effectiveness of treating patients with FOLFIRI plus either cetuximab or bevacizumab from the perspective of the Chinese health-care system. Costs, quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) were calculated over a lifetime horizon. One-way and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed by varying potentially modifiable parameters. RESULTS In our analysis, the total treatment costs in the bevacizumab and cetuximab groups were $92 549.31 and $94 987.31, respectively, and the QALYs gained were 1.58 and 2.05. In the base-case analysis, compared with bevacizumab, left-sided RAS WT patients receiving cetuximab gained 0.47 more QALYs at an ICER of $5187.23/QALY ($3166.23/LY). The 1-way sensitivity analysis showed that the most influential parameter was the cost of cetuximab. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis indicated that the cost-effective probability of cetuximab group was 92.8% under the willingness-to-pay threshold of $24 081. CONCLUSIONS Treatment with FOLFIRI plus cetuximab in Chinese patients with left-sided RAS WT mCRC may improve health outcomes and use financial resources more efficiently than FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab. The use of ornamental plants for the phytoremediation of potentially toxic elements in polluted soils is an interesting task. It makes possible to combine environmental restoration, re-use of land, and the production of goods and services of economic interest. In this work, in vitro experiments using three cultivars of Chrysanthemum (Asteraceae) were carried out with 0, 300, 600, 900, and 1500 mg/kg of lead concentrations for a period of 12 weeks. The objective was to obtain data about their lead tolerance and bioaccumulation capacity in order to know their potential as phytoremediators in a densely populated Caribbean area of the Dominican Republic with a high concentration of lead in soils. The variations in biomass, root growth as well as accumulation of this element in the plants were measured. The results suggest that the three cultivars have a good potential for phytoextraction at moderate pollution levels, as they showed a good bioaccumulation of lead, which had mild effects on their biomass production and root elongation. Additional studies should be carried out to assess their effectiveness as phytoextractors under field conditions, as well as other alternative uses that could generate esthetic, environmental, and/or economic benefits for tropical areas contaminated by Pb.
