It has been recently shown that enantiomers of the helicoidal paddlewheel complex [Co3 (dpa)4 (CH3 CN)2 ]2+ (dpa = the anion of 2,2'-dipyridylamine) can be resolved using the chiral [As2 (tartrate)2 ]2- anion (AsT) and that these complexes demonstrate a strong chiroptical response in the ultraviolet-visible and X-ray energy regions. Here we report that the nickel congener, [Ni3 (dpa)4 (CH3 CN)2 ]2+ , can likewise be resolved using AsT. Depending on the stereochemistry of the enantiopure AsT anion, one or the other of the trinickel enantiomers crystallize from CH3 CN and diethyl ether in space group P421 2 as the (NBu4 )2 [Ni3 (dpa)4 (CH3 CN)2 ](AsT)2 ·[solvent] salt. After resolution, the AsT salts were converted into the PF6 - salts by anion exchange, with retention of the chirality of the trinickel complex. The enantiopure [Ni3 (dpa)4 (CH3 CN)2 ](PF6 )2 ·2CH3 CN and [Co3 (dpa)4 (CH3 CN)2 ](PF6 )2 ·CH3 CN·C4 H10 O compounds crystallize in space groups C2 and P21 , respectively. Both the Ni(II) and Co(II) complex cations are stable towards racemization in CH3 CN. Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) data obtained in CD3 CN demonstrate the expected mirror image spectra for the enantiomers, the observed peaks arising from the dpa ligand. The VCD response is significant, with Δε values up to 6 Lmol-1 cm-1 and vibrational dissymmetry factors on the order of 10-3 . Density functional theory calculations well reproduce the experimental spectra, showing little difference between the peak position, sign, and intensity in the VCD for the cobalt and nickel complexes. These results suggest that VCD enhancement of these peaks is unlikely, and their remarkable intensity may be due to their rigid helicoidal structure. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Mounting evidence supports an association between cholestatic liver disease and changes in the composition of the microbiome. Still, the role of the microbiome in the pathogenesis of this condition remains largely undefined. To address this, we have used two experimental models, administering ANIT or feeding a 0.1%DDC diet, to induce cholestatic liver disease in germ-free mice and germ-free mice conventionalized with the microbiome from WT SPF animals. Next, we have inhibited macrophage activation by depleting these cells using clodronate-liposomes and inhibiting the inflammasome with a specific inhibitor of Nlrp3. Our results demonstrate that cholestasis, the accumulation of bile acids in the liver, fails to promote liver injury in the absence of the microbiome in vivo. Additional in vitro studies supported that endotoxin sensitizes hepatocytes to bile acid-induced cell death. We also demonstrate that during cholestasis, macrophages contribute to promoting intestinal permeability and to altered microbiome composition via the activation of the inflammasome, overall leading to increased endotoxin flux into the cholestatic liver. In conclusion, we demonstrate that the intestinal microbiome contributes to cholestasis-mediated cell death and inflammation via mechanisms involving the activation of the inflammasome in macrophages. Living with fatigue can lead to reduced life expectancy and quality of life. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To describe oncology nurses' experiences of meeting with men with cancer and talking about cancer-related fatigue. DESIGN AND METHODS The data were collected via semi-structured interviews with nine oncology nurses recruited using a purposeful sampling method and analysed using thematic content analysis. This qualitative design was conducted to describe and interpret the content of experiences. ETHICAL ISSUES AND APPROVAL The study was approved by a regional Ethical Review Board, and research ethical principles were followed. RESULTS The analysis revealed one major theme, namely take the whole person into consideration, and three subthemes the importance of (i) establishing trust in the nurse-patient relationship, (ii) supporting the patient's understanding of cancer-related fatigue, and (iii) managing the challenging emotions experienced by patients. The major theme describes the oncology nurses' approach when meeting with men with cancer-related fatigue. CONCLUSION The results provide insight into how oncology nurses can increase their knowledge about fatigue to establish trust in nurse-patient relationships. They can acquire knowledge about how to make men with cancer-related fatigue feel safe when handling their daily lives despite their fatigue. Oncology nurses require knowledge, presence and commitment in their interactions with men with cancer-related fatigue to be able to take the whole person into consideration. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Vorinostat-saha.html This study demonstrates the importance of the approach oncology nurses take when interacting with men with cancer-related fatigue and the strategies required when talking about cancer-related fatigue. © 2020 The Authors. However, delays in presentation and referral can result in delay in diagnosis and management, which can lead to unfavourable treatment outcomes. This is particularly a problem for pre- and peri-menopausal women. Providing educational information to women and healthcare providers regarding symptoms relating to endometrial cancer may raise awareness of the disease and reduce delayed treatment. OBJECTIVES To assess the effectiveness of health education interventions targeting healthcare providers, or individuals, or both, to promote early presentation and referral for women with endometrial cancer symptoms. SEARCH METHODS We searched CENTRAL, MEDLINE and Embase. We also searched registers of clinical trials, abstracts of scientific meetings and reference lists of review articles. SELECTION CRITERIA We planned to include randomised controlled trials (RCTs), both individually randomised and cluster-RCTs.
