Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a genetic disorder resulting in fibrofatty replacement of the myocardium. Genetic mutations in genes encoding for desmosome proteins result in a ventricular myocardium prone to arrhythmias and heart failure. Although ARVC is known for a few decades, most of the outcomes in pregnancy are reported recently. Pregnancy leads to significant physiological changes with excess mechanical stress on the myocardium. All the retrospective studies suggest that pregnancy is well tolerated in these patients despite the high risk of arrhythmias and heart failure. Our review focuses on the most up-to-date evidence on the management of ARVC patients during the antepartum and postpartum period. This study aimed to clarify the efficacy of intravaginal CO -laser treatment in postmenopausal women with genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). This double blind, randomized, sham-controlled trial included postmenopausal women diagnosed with GSM and bothersome dryness and dyspareunia. Treatment consisted of three sessions. Active CO -laser treatments (active group) were compared to sham treatments (sham group) with the primary endpoints being changes in dryness and dyspareunia intensity, as assessed by the 10-cm visual analog scale. Secondary endpoints were as follows changes in Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI; total score and all domains), itching, burning, dysuria, and Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI-6); incidence of symptoms; and presence of adverse events. Telemedicine visits with a spine surgeon at 2 practices in the United States between March and May 2020 were eligible for inclusion in the study. Patients were sent an electronic survey recording overall satisfaction, technical or clinical issues encountered, and preference for a telemedicine versus an in-person visit. Factors associated with poor satisfaction and preference of telemedicine over an in-person visit were identified using multivariate logistic regression. A total of 772 responses were collected. Overall, 87.7% of patients were satisfied with their telemedicine visit and 45% indicated a preference for a telemedicine visit over an in-person visit if given the option. Patients with technical or clinical issues were significantly less likely to achieve 5 out of 5 satisfaction scores and were significantly more likely to prefer an in-person visit. Patients who live less than 5 miles from their surgeon's office and patients older than 60 years were also significantly more likely to prefer in-person visits. This need is due to pandemics producing infodemic conditions, meaning the public information environment is oversaturated with information of questionable accuracy and utility. The strategic use of visuals can be leveraged to improve the quality of health communication during public health crises and lessen the unintended effects of infodemic conditions. In this essay, we review previous visual communication theorizing and research that provide insights for effective and efficient use of graphical (e.g., data visualizations) and illustrative (e.g., photos, illustrations, and content features) visuals. We also discuss and advocate for more systematic research on visual misinformation and visual narratives, as there are significant gaps in the literature about how people interpret, act on, and engage with these visual content types. More systematic research about these areas of visual health communication research will improve public communication during future public health crises.
