Previous reports have demonstrated the effectiveness of casting for EOS. Brace treatment for EOS has not been studied. The purpose of this multicenter retrospective study was to compare radiographic outcomes, complications, and rates of conversion to surgery in children with EOS treated with casting or bracing. Children aged 2-6years with idiopathic or neuromuscular EOS treated with casting or bracing with minimum follow-up of 2years were identified. 68 patients (36 cast, 32 brace) were analyzed. Diagnosis, age at start of treatment, and duration of follow-up were similar. Although the cast patients had a larger pre-treatment major curve magnitude (50° vs 31°, p < 0.001), both groups had a similar major curve magnitude at most recent follow-up (36° vs 32°, p = 0.456). T1-T12 and T1-S1 length increased in both groups. The cast and brace patients had similar complications and conversions to surgery. Sub-analysis showed that while casting resulted in curve improvement regardless of etiology, bracing was able to prevent curve progression in patients with idiopathic EOS but not in patients with non-idiopathic EOS (Δ- 15° vs 27°, p = 0.006). Regression analysis (significance p = 0.10) controlling for baseline age, major curve magnitude, and T1-T12 and T1-S1 length showed that treatment method was associated with difference in major curve magnitude (p = 0.090) and T1-T12 length (p = 0.024). In our study, serial casting led to curve improvement in children with idiopathic and neuromuscular EOS, whereas brace treatment appeared to prevent curve progression in patients with idiopathic EOS but did not appear to control the curve in neuromuscular EOS. Across two sessions, participants completed assessments of DD and food demand at baseline and while prompted to (1) engage in either EFT or control episodic recent thinking, and (2) while reading a brief narrative describing either economic scarcity or neutral income conditions. Results showed that EFT significantly reduced DD, whereas the economic scarcity narrative significantly increased DD; no significant interaction between EFT and scarcity was observed. No significant effect of either EFT or scarcity was observed on food demand. We conclude that EFT decreases DD even when challenged by simulated economic scarcity in adults at risk for diabetes. The absence of a significant interaction between EFT and scarcity suggests that these variables operate independently to influence DD in opposing directions. Effects of EFT and economic scarcity on food demand require further study. The present study was registered on clinicaltrials.gov (NCT03664726). Thirty-two individuals born with cleft lip and palate that underwent bone graft from the iliac crest bone were assessed at 12, 24, 48, 72h, and 7days regarding their pain experience using a visual analogic scale. DNA from each participant was collected from saliva samples, and genotyping of rs4818 was performed using TaqMan chemistry. Overrepresentation of rs4818 alleles was tested using chi-square or Fisher's exact tests with an alpha of 0.05. Of the 32 individuals, eighteen reported long pain duration, nine reported high pain intensity, and fourteen low pain intensity up to 48h. No differences were found in the distribution of individuals depending on the reported pain by sex (p= 0.12), age (p= 0.42), or cleft type (p= 0.5). The distribution of COMT r4818 alleles was different depending on the intensity and duration of pain. Carriers of the C wild-type allele were four times more likely to show high pain intensity and duration (odds ratio = 4.29, 95% confidence interval 1.13-16.18), meaning that the G variant allele is protective. The aim of this study is, to investigate the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis and endothelial dysfunction by using carotid intima-media thickness and flow-mediated dilatation measurements, measuring the copeptin values, which is a stress marker, and interpreting the association of copeptin values with these two variables in sarcoidosis patients without conventional risk factors for coronary artery disease. Seventy-four patients (50 f, 24 m) with histopathological diagnosis of sarcoidosis and 60 healthy volunteers (35 f, 25 m) with similar sociodemographic characteristics were included in this study. CIMT, FMD, and serum copeptin levels of all participants were measured. The values of CIMT and Copeptin in sarcoidosis patients were significantly higher (p = 0.001, p  less then  0.001 respectively), and FMD was significantly lower (p = 0.01) than the control group. In sarcoidosis patients not significant correlation found among CIMT with copeptin (r 0.16, p = 0.18) and FMD with copeptin (r 0.01, p = 0.96). With the demonstration of the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis and endothelial dysfunction, we suggest; sarcoidosis patients may be followed more closely in terms of cardiovascular diseases.
