Often, insufficient quadrangular cartilage is available for grafting in Asians, and in most secondary cases the septum is already harvested. We utilized the folded cymba concha as an alternative for caudal SEG (CSEG) by modifying a tongue-in-groove technique. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physical suitability of the cymba concha for CSEG and compare its outcomes with those of septal quadrangular cartilage. The mean length and width of 311 harvested consecutive folded cymba conchae were measured from intraoperative photographs. Data from 220 patients with >12 months of follow-up were retrospectively reviewed for clinical outcomes. Clinical demography was determined based on the need for additional spreader grafts. For clinical reliability, anthropometric photographs of patients in whom folded cymba conchae were used were compared with those in whom quadrangular cartilage was used. Mean [standard deviation] lengths and widths of the folded cymba conchae in men and women were 24.2 [3.9] and 22.4 [3.7] mm, and 7.8 [1.9] and 7.2 [1.9] mm, respectively. Use of the folded cymba concha graft significantly increased nasal tip projection by 28.9% and columellar-labial angle by 9.7%, improving both aspects postoperatively. There has been a proliferation of research on dementia-friendly communities in recent years, particularly on interpersonal and social aspects. Nonetheless, the neighbourhood built environment remains a co-constituent of the lived experience of people living with dementia (PLWD) that is amenable to interventions for health and well-being in the community. This scoping review presents a narrative synthesis of empirical research on dementia-friendly neighbourhoods, with a focus on the built environment and its associated socio-behavioural aspects. Planning and design principles are distilled to identify research and policy implications. We reviewed 29 articles identified through a systematic search of AgeLine, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Global Health, MEDLINE, and Scopus. Peer-reviewed articles that employed quantitative and/or qualitative methods in community settings were included. An equal number of studies focused on behavioural/psychosocial aspects of the built environment and assessment of specific environmenommunity initiatives. While evidence has accumulated on landmarks and social participation at the individual level, research at the community- and policy- levels are limited. This requires advanced mixed methods. Many studies have addressed effects of dietary supplementation with soy protein, but most have been inconsistent and few have been long-term studies in men. This study was a secondary analysis of body weight, blood pressure, thyroid hormones, iron status, and clinical chemistry in a 2-y trial of soy protein supplementation in middle-aged to older men. Data were analyzed as secondary outcomes of a randomized controlled trial of dietary supplementation with 20 g/d soy protein isolate, providing 41 mg/d total isoflavones and 23 mg/d genistein, in 44- to 75-y-old men who were at risk of cancer recurrence following prostatectomy randomized to soy (n=50) or a casein-based placebo (n=43). Weight, blood pressure, and blood samples were collected at baseline, every 2 mo in year 1, and every 3 mo in year 2. Compared with casein, soy supplementation did not affect body weight, blood pressure, serum total cholesterol, calcium, phosphorus, and thyroid hormones. Serum ferritin concentrations doubled over 2 y in both groups (117-129%), whereas hemoglobin and hematocrit increased slightly.
