PAH degraders such as Xanthomonadales, Pseudomonas, and Mycobacterium, which play a central role in PAH-metabolization coupled with other biogeochemical processes (e.g. iron cycling), may contribute to maintaining a healthy estuarine ecosystem. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/zebularine.html These results are important for developing appropriate utilization and protection strategies for pristine estuaries worldwide. The robust and eco-friendly super-hydrophobic sponge with remarkable performances has been potential adsorption material for the treatment of offshore oil spills. In this work, the durable PDMS@SiO2@WS2 sponge was fabricated via a green and facile one-step dipping method. The mixed tungsten disulfide (WS2) microparticles and hydrophobic SiO2 nanoparticles were immobilized on the sponge by non-toxic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) glue tier, which featured the hierarchical structure and extreme water repellency with the water contact angle of 158.8 ± 1.4°. The obtained PDMS@SiO2@WS2 sponge exhibits high oil adsorption capacity with 12-112 times of its own weight, and oil/water selectivity with separation efficiency over 99.85%. Notably, when subjected to the complex marine environment including high temperature, corrosive condition, insolation, and strong wind and waves, the modified sponge can maintain sable super-hydrophobicity with water contact angle over 150°. Moreover, it possesses superior mechanical stability for sustainable reusability and oil recovery. The sponge fabricated by non-toxic modifiers along with its sable super-hydrophobicity in complex marine environment makes it a potential material for practical applications.Artificial light at night (ALAN) is increasing at a high rate across the globe and can cause shifts in animal phenology due to the alteration of perceived photoperiod. Birds in particular may be highly impacted due to their use of extra-retinal photoreceptors, as well as the use of photoperiodic cues to time life events such as reproduction, moult, and migration. For the first time, we used light-logging geolocators to determine the amount of ALAN experienced by long-distance migratory songbirds (purple martin; Progne subis) while at their overwintering sites in South America to measure its potential relationship with spring migration timing. Almost a third of birds (48/155; 31%) were subjected to at least one night with ALAN over 30 days prior to spring migration. Birds that experienced the highest number of nights (10+) with artificial light departed for spring migration on average 8 days earlier and arrived 8 days earlier at their breeding sites compared to those that experienced no artificial light. Early spring migration timing due to pre-migration ALAN experienced at overwintering sites could lead to mistiming with environmental conditions and insect abundance on the migratory route and at breeding sites, potentially impacting survival and/or reproductive success. Such effects would be particularly detrimental to species already exhibiting steep population declines such as purple martins and other migratory aerial insectivores. An economically viable and superficial technique was indorsed to yield ZnFe2O4 nanocrystals in the system to investigate the impact of pH variation on the optical, structural, electrical, and magnetic properties of as-prepared nanocrystals. The as-synthesized ZnFe2O4 nanocrystals were premeditated with the application protracted to degradation of Methylene blue organic dye. The results specify that the pH plays the utmost decisive facet in photo-Fenton recital. From XRD (X-Ray diffraction) analyses, it was confirmed that as-synthesized nanocrystals belong to a cubic Fd3m crystal phase. The crystallite size was also determined by the Scherrer formula and it was noticed that as the pH rises the crystallite size also increased. FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared) analysis depicts two absorption peaks ∼ 500 and ∼600 cm-1 that represents tetrahedral (Td) and octahedral (Oh) sites. Using TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), the morphology was observed to be spherical particles with some agglomeration. Photoluminenanocrystals can be used in industrial persistence.Microplastic (MP) contamination is present in the entire marine environment from the sediment to the water surface and down to the deep sea. This ubiquitous presence of MP particles opens the possibility for their ingestion by nearly all species in the marine ecosystem. Reports have shown that MP particles are present in local commercial seafood species leading to the possible human ingestion of these particles. However, due to a lack of harmonized methods to identify microplastics (MPs), results from different studies and locations can hardly be compared. Hence, this study was aimed to detect, quantify, and estimate MP contamination in commercially important mussels originating from 12 different countries distributed worldwide. All mussels were obtained from supermarkets and were intended for human consumption. Using a combinatorial approach of focal plane array (FPA)-based micro- Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and micro-Raman spectroscopy allowed the detection and characterization of MP down to a size of 3 μm in the investigated mussels. Further, a gentle sample purification method based on enzymes has been modified in order to optimize the digestion of organic material in mussels. A random forest classification (RFC) approach, which allows a rapid discrimination between different polymer types and thus fast generation of data on MP abundance and size distributions with high accuracy, was implemented in the analytical pipeline for IR spectra. Additionally, for the first time we also applied a RFC approach for the automated characterization of Raman spectra of MPs.Soil ecological risk caused by compound pollutants is a topic that deserves increasing attention, and soil risk early warning is a more in-depth discussion on this topic. In this study, we collected soil samples from Changchun, a typical industrial city, and determined the contents of 13 heavy metals (HMs) (0.00 mg kg-1-6380 mg kg-1), 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) (0.00 mg kg-1-27.7 mg kg-1), 7 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) (0.30 μg kg-1-168 μg kg-1), and 8 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) (0.00 mg kg-1-4.52 mg kg-1). The soil ecological risks of compound pollutants were assessed. The results showed that PAHs were the greatest risk pollutants, followed by PCBs and HMs, and OCPs were the smallest risk pollutants. Most of the ecological risks of compound pollutants were classified as "moderate severity" level according to the (contamination severity index) CSI evaluation criteria. With the help of modern industrial economic theory, through the analysis of the annual accumulation of pollutants, it is possible to predict the future pollutant content in Changchun, and the soil risks could be forewarned.
