Primary ductal adenocarcinoma of the lacrimal gland is a rare and aggressive malignant epithelial lacrimal gland neoplasm, morphologically and phenotypically resembles salivary duct carcinoma, and both strongly resemble infiltrating ductal carcinoma of breast. Retrospective Chart review of cases of malignant lacrimal gland tumors from 2013 July to 2020 July. Authors describe the clinico radiological, morphological and immunohistochemical features of primary ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) of lacrimal gland. Extensive review of literature of PDA of lacrimal gland and salivary gland ductal carcinoma has been performed. Retrospective chart review of the last 7years yielded 22 malignant lacrimal gland neoplasms of which 4 cases demonstrated features of primary ductal adenocarcinoma of lacrimal gland, 2/4 cases showed an evidence of a pre existing pleomorphic adenoma and 2 were found to be de novo ductal adenocarcinomas. PDA of lacrimal gland showed expression of CK7, CK19, AR, HER2, cyclin D1 and were negative and aggressive tumor which may result in better patient outcomes. In this study, an impedance biosensor was developed for rapid and sensitive detection of Salmonella typhimurium using multiple magnetic nanobead (MNB) nets in a ring channel for continuous-flow separation of target bacteria from 10 mL of sample, manganese dioxide nanoflowers (MnO2 NFs) for efficient amplification of biological signal, and an interdigitated microelectrode for sensitive measurement of impedance change. First, the MNBs modified with capture antibodies were vortically injected from outer periphery of this ring channel to form multiple ring MNB nets at specific locations with high gradient magnetic fields. Then, the bacterial sample was continuous-flow injected, resulting in specific capture of target bacteria onto the nets, and the MnO2 NFs modified with detection antibodies were injected to form MNB-bacteria-MnO2 NF complexes. After the complexes were washed with deionized water to remove excessive nanoflowers and residual ions, H2O2 with poor conductivity was injected to reduce MnO2 NFs to conductive Mn2+ at neutral medium, leading to impedance decrease. Finally, impedance change was measured using the microelectrode for quantitative determination of Salmonella. This biosensor was able to separate ~60% of Salmonella from 10 mL of bacterial sample and detect Salmonella with a linear range of 3.0 × 101 to 3.0 × 106 CFU/mL in 1.5 h with lower detection limit of 19 CFU/mL. This biosensor might be further improved with higher sensitivity using a larger volume (100 mL or more) for routine screening of foodborne bacteria without bacterial pre-culture. Containment measures for COVID-19 have affected surgical training globally. We sought to assess how neurosurgical training has been affected across Africa in April2020. A cross-sectional survey was distributed to African Neurosurgical trainees seeking to review demographics and effects of COVID on training. A total of 123 neurosurgery trainees responded from 23 African countries and a further 6 were abroad. A total of 91.80% were men, and 96.70% were training in public institutions. Only 41% had received training in COVID-19 with 61.79% worried that they would contract COVID-19 while performing their clinical duties. There was a marked reduction in clinical activities including a median reduction of elective surgery (-80%), clinics (-83%), and emergency surgery (-38.50%). A total of 23.58% of residents did not receive a formal salary, with 50% on less than $1000 USD gross per month. This is the first continental survey of neurosurgery trainees in Africa. Given the rarity of patients with pineal glioblastoma (GBM), clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognostic factors are not well characterized. This study aimed to investigate these characteristics and identify the prognostic factors of overall survival (OS). A retrospective analysis of newly diagnosed patients with pineal GBM, including our 3 cases and an additional 44 cases from published articles, was conducted. Survival analysis was performed by Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression analysis was used to determine the prognostic factors.
