Lotus corniculatus L. (Fabaceae) is widely grown in Egypt. It has a great history of folkloric medicinal uses. All fractions of aerial parts of L. corniculatus L. showed significant antioxidant and immunostimulant activities and could strongly induce lymphoproliferation. However, the light petrol fraction had antifungal activity against C. neoformans with IC50 value ( less then 8 µg/mL) and exhibited strongest in-vitro antiprotozoal activity against protozoan parasites belonging to the genera Trypanosoma with IC50 value (0.98 µg/mL) and Plasmodium (with 100% inhibition using a sample concentration of 15866.7 ng/mL). This is the first study of the immunostimulant and antiprotozoal activities of genus Lotus. By this approach, it was possible to isolate eight compounds (-)-7,2'-dihydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavan (vestitol) (1), kaempferol (2), kaempferol 3-O-α-L-rhamnoside (afzelin) (3), kaempferol 3, 7-O-α-L-dirhamnoside (kaempferitin) (4), kaempferol-3-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl (1″'→2″)-β-D-galactopyranoside] (5), 3-O-[β-D-glucuronopyranosyl] soyasapogenol B (6), kaempferol-3-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl (1″'→2″)-β-D-galactopyranoside]-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (7) and 3-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1″'→2″)-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1″→2')-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl] soyasapogenol B (soyasaponin І) (8). Patients treated with third-generation EGFR TKIs will develop resistance to treatment at a certain point. Early detection of resistance occurrence could allow more options for treatment. We discuss the development of third-generation EGFR TKIs, focusing on osimertinib and discuss the most common resistance mechanisms under evaluation. We also debate how this resistance can be detected; particularly we review the possible application of liquid biopsy in this scenario. Lastly we discuss available treatment options when resistance occurs, with an eye on ongoing trials and possible future developments. As resistance will ultimately develop, a strict instrumental follow-up as per international guidelines is required with the aim of detecting this resistance in an early phase. Detecting an oligoprogression could allow the integration of local ablative therapies while further delaying the need for a systemic therapy change. Intestinal parasitic infection (IPI) is a global health concern among socioeconomically deprived communities in many developing countries. Many preventative strategies have been deployed to control IPI, however, there is a lack in standards on the techniques used to diagnose and monitor the prevalence of IPI. The present article will review the diseases associated with IPI and discuss the current IPI control strategies such as the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions, community-led total sanitation (CLTS) approach, and regular anthelminthic treatments. For the first time, this review will also evaluate all currently practised diagnostic techniques for the detection of intestinal parasites and provide insights on future IPI control strategies. Advanced and improved diagnostic methods such as qPCR coupled with a high-resolution melting curve, aptamers, biosensors, and detection of extracellular vesicles can be used for detection of IPI. Vaccination against intestinal parasites can be made available to increase antibodies to interfere with the blood-feeding process by the parasites, which subsequently reduces the reproductive rates of the parasites. These methods collectively can serve as future management strategies for intestinal parasitic infections.
