In addition, significant immune cell infiltration was observed in the kidney after four doses of 9 mg/kg cisplatin, contrary to what has been previously reported. These results indicate that multiple strains of mice can be used with our repeated low-dose cisplatin model with dose optimization. Results also indicate that littermate control mice should be used with this model to account for population variability.Psychological interventions may be effective in improving adherence after bariatric surgery; however, there is limited research on patients' willingness to engage with psychological aftercare. This study aimed to qualitatively explore patient perspectives on psychological services in the bariatric setting. Participants reported believing that psychological care is essential for treatment success and indicated that they wanted support with adjusting to changes in lifestyle, self-identity, and relationships after surgery. Participants suggested that psychological aftercare should be recommended by their medical team and incorporated into standard management after bariatric surgery. These findings can be used to inform the design of services for bariatric surgery patients.Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is endemic to tropical areas in Asia and the Western Pacific. It can cause fatal encephalitis, although most infected individuals are asymptomatic. JEV is mainly transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito, but can also be transmitted through blood transfusion. To manage the potential risk of transfusion transmission, pathogen inactivation (PI) technologies, such as THERAFLEX MB-Plasma and THERAFLEX UV-Platelets systems, have been developed. We examined the efficacy of these two PI systems to inactivate JEV. Japanese encephalitis virus-spiked plasma units were treated using the THERAFLEX MB-Plasma system (visible light doses, 20, 40, 60, and 120 [standard] J/cm2) in the presence of methylene blue at approximately 0.8 μmol/L and spiked platelet concentrates (PCs) were treated using the THERAFLEX UV-Platelets system (UVC doses, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20 [standard] J/cm2). Samples were taken before the first and after each illumination dose and tested for infectivity using an immunoplaque assay. Treatment of plasma with the THERAFLEX MB-Plasma system resulted in an average of 6.59 log reduction in JEV infectivity at one-sixth of the standard visible light dose (20 J/cm2). For PCs, treatment with the THERAFLEX UV-Platelet system resulted in an average of 7.02 log reduction in JEV infectivity at the standard UVC dose (0.20 J/cm2). The THERAFLEX MB-Plasma and THERAFLEX UV-Platelets systems effectively inactivated JEV in plasma or PCs, and thus these PI technologies could be an effective option to reduce the risk of JEV transfusion transmission. Conservative management is recognized as an acceptable treatment for people with worsening chronic kidney disease; however, patients consistently report they lack understanding about their changing disease state and feel unsupported in making shared decisions about future treatment. The purpose of this review was to critically evaluate patient decision aids (PtDAs) developed to support patient-professional shared decision-making between dialysis and conservative management treatment pathways. To the best of our knowledge, only six cases have been reported. A 73-year-old man presented with sudden severe headache, diplopia, and dysarthria, with no history of trauma. Head CT revealed a retrociliary hematoma. No obvious causes of bleeding, such as cerebral aneurysms or malformations, were detected. Conservative treatment was provided to the patient. MRI showed an intraventricular hemorrhage and a space between the basilar artery and hematoma three days after onset. The hematoma almost disappeared on day 7. MRI, particularly T2-weighted sagittal MRI, is effective in localizing hematomas and confirming intraventricular hemorrhages.To clarify the physiological factors associated with the development of tomato leaf marginal necrosis associated with potassium deficiency, tomato leaf blades prior to development of the symptoms were collected, and profiles of water-soluble metabolites were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Multivariate analysis was conducted to screen for a component that was related to potassium deficiency-induced leaf necrosis among the 60 metabolites detected in tomato leaves. Polyamines, sugars, and branched amino acids were ranked highly. Putrescine was most strongly and negatively correlated with potassium concentration and exhibited an exponential response, regardless of the site or plant body. In addition to putrescine, glucose, xylose and l-isoleucine are known to play important roles in stress response and ion balance control, and it is thought that changes in metabolite profiles are linked to tomato leaf marginal necrosis associated with a decrease in endogenous potassium concentration. These findings will be useful for cultivation management to mitigate this physiological disorder of tomato.
