The pulsatile frequency was set to ≈ 0.9 Hz (55 bpm) and the upstream peak Reynolds number (Re) was changed from 1100 to 2000. Flow in the post-stenotic region was composed of two main structures a high velocity jet over the stenosis throat and a recirculation region behind the stenosis where vortex form and shed. We characterized vortex kinematics showing that vortex propagation velocity increases withRe. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/a-485.html Moreover, from the FTLE field we identified Lagrangian Coherent Structures (i.e. material barriers) that dictate transport behind the stenosis. The size and strength of those barriers increased withReand the occlusion degree. Finally, from the PRT and FP maps, we showed that independently ofRe, the same amount of fluid remains on the stenosis over more than a pulsatile period. This study aims to demonstrate a low-cost camera-based radioluminescence imaging system (CRIS) for high-quality beam visualization that encourages accurate pre-treatment verifications on radiation delivery in external beam radiotherapy. To ameliorate the optical image that suffers from mirror glare and edge blurring caused by photon scattering, a deep learning model is proposed and trained to learn from an on-board electronic portal imaging device (EPID). Beyond the typical purposes of an on-board EPID, the developed system maintains independent measurement with co-planar detection ability by involving a cylindrical receptor. Three task-aware modules are integrated into the network design to enhance its robustness against the artifacts that exist in an EPID running at the cine mode for efficient image acquisition. The training data consists of various designed beam fields that were modulated via the multi-leaf collimator (MLC). Validation experiments are performed for five regular fields ranging from 2 × 2 cm2 to 10 × 10 cm2 and three clinical IMRT cases. The captured CRIS images are compared to the high-quality images collected from an EPID running at the integration-mode, in terms of gamma index and other typical similarity metrics. The mean 2%/2 mm gamma pass rate is 99.14% (range between 98.6% and 100%) and 97.1% (ranging between 96.3% and 97.9%), for the regular fields and IMRT cases, respectively. The CRIS is further applied as a tool for MLC leaf-end position verification. A rectangular field with introduced leaf displacement is designed, and the measurements using CRIS and EPID agree within 0.100 mm ± 0.072 mm with maximum of 0.292 mm. Coupled with its simple system design and low-cost nature, the technique promises to provide viable choice for routine quality assurance in radiation oncology practice. Nanoparticles (NPs) with radioactive atoms incorporated within the structure of the NP or bound to its surface, functionalized with biomolecules are reported as an alternative to low-dose-rate seed-based brachytherapy. In this study, authors report a mathematical dosimetric study on low-dose rate brachytherapy using radioactive NPs. Single-cell dosimetry was performed by calculating cellular S-values for spherical cell model using Au-198, Pd-103 and Sm-153 NPs. The cell survival and tumour volume vs time curves were calculated and compared to the experimental studies on radiotherapeutic efficiency of radioactive NPs published in the literature. Finally, the radiotherapeutic efficiency of Au-198, Pd-103 and Sm-153 NPs was tested for variable administered radioactivity, tumour volume and tumour cell type. At the cellular level Sm-153 presented the highest S-value, followed by Pd-103 and Au-198. The calculated cell survival and tumour volume curves match very well with the published experimental results. In rate and radiosensitivity of tumour cells.Au-198 NPs functionalized with Mangiferin are a suitable choice for treating large, radioresistant and rapidly growing tumours. To prepare a hierarchical micro-nano structure FeF3·0.33H2O simply and economically, a one-pot method with dual surfactants was used. Scanning electron microscopy and a Fourier transformation infrared spectrometer revealed that polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) regulates the morphology of the material, while cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) can reshape FF@PVP, it can not only remove PVP at room temperature, but also obtain a hierarchical micro-nano structure. The electrochemical results show that the hierarchical micro-nano structure FF(1.5CTAB 0.5PVP) has the best electrochemical performance. It maintained a high specific capacity of 109.4 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles at 1 C. In particular, under the ultra-high rate discharge of 20 C, the ultra-high specific discharge capacity of 66.4 mAh g-1 was reached. The FF(1.5CTAB 0.5PVP)'s excellent electrochemical performance is mainly due to a large contact area between the electrolyte and active materials. In this work we present the first delivery of intensity modulated arc therapy on the Elekta Unity 1.5 T MR-linac. The machine's current intensity modulated radiation therapy based control system was modified suitably to enable dynamic delivery of radiation, for the purpose of exploring MRI-guided radiation therapy adaptation modes in a research setting. The proof-of-concept feasibility was demonstrated by planning and delivering two types of plans, each investigating the performance of different parts of a dynamic treatment. A series of fixed-speed arc plans was used to show the high-speed capabilities of the gantry during radiation, while several fully modulated prostate plans-optimised following the volumetric modulated arc therapy approach-were delivered in order to establish the performance of its multi-leaf collimator and diaphragms. These plans were delivered to Delta4 Phantom+ MR and film phantoms passing the clinical quality assurance criteria used in our clinic. In addition, we also performed some initial MR imaging experiments during dynamic therapy, demonstrating that the impact of radiation and moving gantry/collimator components on the image quality is negligible. These results show that arc therapy is feasible on the Elekta Unity system. The machine's high performance components enable dynamic delivery during fast gantry rotation and can be controlled in a stable fashion to deliver fully modulated plans.
