Eight Constitution Medicine (ECM) is a Korean constitutional medicine system that classifies people into 8 types Pulmotonia (PUL), Colonotonia (COL), Renotonia (REN), Vesicotonia (VES), Pancreotonia (PAN), Gastrotonia (GAS), Hepatonia (HEP), and Cholecystonia (CHO). Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a major public health problem worldwide. We assessed the prevalence of and associations between ECM and MS. Cross-sectional convenience sample of 245 adults was used at a medical check-up center in Seoul, South Korea, from 2010 to 2015. Adults were classified into 1 of 8 constitutions by an ECM specialist. MS was diagnosed on the basis of National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III and Asian Pacific Criteria for abdominal obesity. We also computed the prevalence by percentage and calculated odds ratios (ORs) for MS among 6 constitutions with PUL as the reference.Among 245 adults, 20 (8.2%) were diagnosed with PUL, 43 (17.6%) with COL, 35(14.3%) with REN, 4 (1.6%) with VES, 71 (29.0%) with PAN, 0 (0.0%) with GAS, 54 (22.0%) with HEP, and 18 (7.3%) with CHO. The prevalence of MS in the constitutions was significantly different CHO, 38.9%; HEP, 35.2%; PAN, 18.3%; COL, 11.6%; PUL, 5.0%; REN, 2.9% (P = .001). We observed higher ORs for HEP and CHO (OR = 13.03, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.61-105.70; and OR = 13.19, 95% CI = 1.39-125.46, respectively) than for the other constitutions.People with HEP and CHO constitutions could be at higher risk for MS. Therefore, ECM-based diagnosis may be useful for preventing and managing MS.Previous work suggests that the long noncoding RNA HCC associated long non-coding RNA (HANR) is associated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression, but its significance in the context of colorectal cancer (CRC) remains to be determined. Therefore, in this study we assessed the prognostic and diagnostic value of HANR in patients suffering from CRC.The HANR expression in 165 pairs of CRC cancer and adjacent non-cancerous prostate tissues was measured by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis. Student t test was conducted for intergroup comparison. Pearson correlation test was used for correlation analysis. Survival curves were carried out by the Kaplan-Meier method and evaluated using the log-rank test. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard risk regression model was performed to screen the independent factor affected the prognosis of CRC patients.In this study, levels of HANR were significantly higher in CRC tumor samples relative to adjacent normal tissue samples (P  less then  .001). A ROC analysis suggested HANR expression could be reliably used to differentiate between normal and CRC tumor tissue. In addition, elevated HANR expression was positively correlated with more advanced and aggressive CRC features, such as a larger tumor size (P = .003), increased invasion depth (P = .012), and more advanced TNM stage (P = .011). Survival analyses revealed that elevated HANR expression was correlated with worse overall survival (P = .002) and disease-free survival (P = .003). A multivariate analysis further confirmed the relevance of HANR as an independent predictor of CRC patient outcomes.In summary, these results indicate that the lncRNA HANR is a promising prognostic indicator in CRC patients.The objective of this paper is to demonstrate, considering the experiences from Chinese people, if slow transit constipation (STC) can be accurately diagnosed, choosing patients qualifying for surgery, subtotal colectomy with antiperistaltic cecosigmoidal anastomosis (STC-Anti-CSA) may come with more acceptable short and long-term outcomes.A retrospective study was performed at a department of colorectal and anal surgery. A cohort of 29 patients were coming with up to 5 years' follow-up care, who were in a diverse range of age, BMI, laxative medicine histories, including both males and females. However, little is known about the value of predictive biomarkers. Hence, we investigated the impact of skeletal muscle (SM) mass loss on clinical outcomes in NSCLC patients undergoing nivolumab treatment. Thirty patients with histologically confirmed NSCLC treated with nivolumab were included in this study. Computed tomography was used to determine SM loss based on the SM index (SMI). The SMI is the cross-sectional area of the bilateral psoas muscles at the third lumbar vertebra, divided by height squared. The cut-off values were defined as 6.36 cm/m for men and 3.92 cm/m for women. Among the 30 patients, 13 (43%) had SM loss. There was no significant association between SM loss and immune-related adverse events. The SM loss group had undergone significantly more prior chemotherapy cycles (P = .04). SM loss was significantly associated with fewer nivolumab cycles (P = .01). No patients in the SM loss group achieved a partial response. Patients with SM loss had a significantly shorter progression-free survival period (P = .008) and median overall survival than those with normal SM mass (10 vs 25 months, respectively, P = .03). SM loss was an independent prognostic factor of poor survival. In conclusion, SM loss may be a predictive factor of poor outcomes in NSCLS patients undergoing nivolumab therapy.Although cholecystectomy is generally recommended for acute acalculous cholecystitis (AAC) treatment, non-surgical management can be considered in patients at a high risk for surgery. https://www.selleckchem.com/GSK-3.html This study compared outcomes of surgical and non-surgical management and analyzed the long-term outcomes of AAC patients managed non-surgically.We retrospectively analyzed 89 patients diagnosed with AAC between January 1, 2007 and April 30, 2014. These patients were divided into 2 groups non-surgical (n = 41) and surgical (n = 48). Non-surgical management methods were percutaneous cholecystostomy (PC, n = 14) and antibiotics only (n = 27). The non-surgical group was followed up for >3 years after treatment.The mean age was slightly higher in the non-surgical group than in the surgical group without significant difference. The prevalence of cerebrovascular accident in the non-surgical group was significantly higher than that in the surgical group (26.8% vs 8.3%, P = .020). Mean hospital stay was not statistically different between two groups.
