The number of international migrants is estimated at 272million people worldwide. In Europe, migrants face the disproportionate burden of infectious diseases, including hepatitis B and C, HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). High-risk behaviours, sexual abuse, poor living conditions and barriers to accessing health care may affect migrants' sexual health, leading to infections. The study evaluates STIs and HIV prevalence and knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) in non-European migrants attending the sexual health clinic in Malta. It also seeks to explore situations of human trafficking (HT), sex/gender-based violence (S/GBV) and female genital mutilations (FGM). This is a mixed-method study, based on quantitative and qualitative research within a single centre. An anonymous pretested questionnaire was administered to non-European migrants attending the genitourinary clinic (GUC) with the assistance of an ethnocultural agent. Demographics, STI diagnoses and risk behaviours were collected fropport the need of improving awareness about STIs/HIV risk and testing. In migrants at particular risk for HIV, combination prevention strategies should include access to pre-exposure prophylaxis and antiretrovirals independently from migrants' legal status. Finally, STIs/HIV prevention in migrants should be linked with interventions tackling HT and other forms of S/GBV. Both endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial biopsy (EBUS-TBB) and computed tomography-guided transthoracic needle biopsy (CT-TTNB) are approaches commonly utilized to diagnose peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs). The present meta-analysis was, therefore, designed to provide more reliable evidence regarding the relative advantages of these two approaches to PPL diagnosis in order to guide clinical decision making. The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for relevant studies published as of May 2020. Endpoint data pertaining to technical success rates, diagnostic accuracy, and complication rates were then extracted from these studies. Meta-analyses were conducted using RevMan v5.3. We identified nine total relevant studies for inclusion in the present meta-analysis, incorporating 2025 total patients (2035 total procedures) that underwent EBUS-TBB (n=994) or CT-TTNB (n=1041) for the purposes of PPL diagnosis. Rates of technical success were comparable between these two groups (odds ratio [OR] 0.16; P=0.21). However, CT-TTNB was associated with higher diagnostic yield (OR 0.23; P<0.00001), greater accuracy (OR 0.43; P=0.002), and higher rates of complications (OR 7.27; P<0.00001) than was EBUS-TBB. Subgroup analyses revealed that CT-TTNB was associated with better diagnostic yield and accuracy when analyzing small lesions and lesions that were proximal to the pleura. Significant heterogeneity among studies was detected with respect to both technical success rates and diagnostic yield, but there was no evidence of publication bias. When diagnosing PPLs, CT-TTNB is associated with higher diagnostic yield and accuracy but with poorer safety outcomes than EBUS-TBB. However, the diagnosis of MDR-TB remains a huge challenge to its prevention and control. To identify new diagnostic methods for MDR-TB, a mass spectrometry strategy of data-independent acquisition and parallel reaction monitoring was used to detect and validate differential serum proteins. The bioinformatic analysis showed that the functions of differential serum proteins between the MDR-TB group and the drug-sensitive tuberculosis group were significantly correlated to the complement coagulation cascade, surface adhesion and extracellular matrix receptor interaction, suggesting a disorder of coagulation in TB. Here, we identified three potential candidate biomarkers such as sCD14, PGLYRP2 and FGA, and established a diagnostic model using these three candidate biomarkers with a sensitivity of 81.2%, a specificity of 90% and the area under the curve value of 0.934 in receiver operation characteristics curve to diagnose MDR-TB. Our study has paved the way for a novel method to diagnose MDR-TB and may contribute to elucidate the mechanisms underlying MDR-TB. Qualitative research approaches are increasingly integrated into medical education research to answer relevant questions that quantitative methodologies cannot accommodate. However, researchers have found that traditional qualitative methodological approaches reflect the foundations and objectives of disciplines whose aims are recognizably different from the medical education domain of inquiry (Thorne, 2016, Interpretive description. New York, NY Routledge). Interpretive description (ID), a widely used qualitative research method within nursing, offers an accessible and theoretically flexible approach to analysing qualitative data within medical education research. ID is an appropriate methodological alternative for medical education research, as it can address complex experiential questions while producing practical outcomes. It allows for the advancement of knowledge surrounding educational experience without sacrificing methodological integrity that long-established qualitative approaches provide. We conclude by advocating for the interpretive description approach as a viable and flexible methodology for medical education research.This study examined the role of physical activity and changes in physical activity levels during childhood in long-term labor market outcomes. To address this important but under-researched theme, the study utilized data drawn from longitudinal research, the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study (YFS), and from registries compiled by Statistics Finland. The study consisted of children aged 9 (n = 1565) and 15 (n = 2445) at the time their physical activity was measured. Labor market outcomes, including employment status, average employment months, and average unemployment months, were calculated from 1997 to 2010, when the participants were aged 20 to 48 years. Regression models were used to assess the relationship between physical activity and labor market outcomes. The results show that the consequences of childhood physical activity may be far-reaching, as higher childhood physical activity was positively related to the probability of being employed and employment months and was negatively related to unemployment months.
