Adenovirus infections tend to be mild, but they may pose a serious threat for young and immunocompromised individuals. The treatment is complicated because there are no approved safe and specific drugs for adenovirus infections. Here, we present evidence that 17-(Allylamino)-17-demethoxygeldanamycin (17-AAG), an inhibitor of Hsp90 chaperone, decreases the rate of human adenovirus 5 (HAdV-5) replication in cell cultures by 95%. 17-AAG inhibited the transcription of early and late genes of HAdV-5, replication of viral DNA, and expression of viral proteins. 6 h after infection, Hsp90 inhibition results in a 6.3-fold reduction of the newly synthesized E1A protein level without a decrease in the E1A mRNA level. However, the Hsp90 inhibition does not increase the decay rate of the E1A protein that was constitutively expressed in the cell before exposure to the inhibitor. The co-immunoprecipitation proved that E1A protein interacted with Hsp90. Altogether, the presented results show, for the first time. that Hsp90 chaperones newly synthesized, but not mature, E1A protein. Because E1A serves as a transcriptional co-activator of adenovirus early genes, the anti-adenoviral activity of the Hsp90 inhibitor might be explained by the decreased E1A level.A novel member of the Carlavirus genus, provisionally named soybean carlavirus 1 (SCV1), was discovered by RNA-seq analysis of randomly collected soybean leaves in Illinois, USA. Over time, molecules of atmospheric dust agglomerate on top of each other and cause gradual reduction in generated energy. Manual cleaning techniques are required to restore working conditions of PV installation to their original conditions; however, they are time consuming and may lead to damage of the glass coverage. Therefore, implementing a different approach by utilizing self-cleaning and anti-dust coatings on front covers of module surfaces is thought of as a competitive manner of cleansing. Based on the varying properties of such thin-films, a division was made into hydrophobic, hydrophilic, and anti-dust coatings. In this article, the authors would like to present a comprehensive review of those types of transparent films. Moreover, a few hydrophobic coatings available on the Polish market were analyzed by applying them on glass tiles and covering them with three types of dust.Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) is major type of soft tissue sarcomas. UPS presenting with inflammation is rare, and its pathophysiology remains unclear. Herein, we report a rare case of UPS with prolonged fever. A 91-year-old female complaining of high fever was referred to our hospital because of a high C-reactive protein (CRP) level of 12.51 mg/dL. She had been experiencing intermittent fevers for approximately 10 years. The fever of unknown origin worsened with time and went into remission with repeated antimicrobial therapy. She also had a mass on her central lower back over the sacral region for 6 years, which showed a gradual increase in size. The blood tests showed that the leukocyte count and neutrophils were 6.51 × 103 /µL and 70.3%, respectively. She had a 10 × 10 cm mass on her buttock that showed 2-[fluorine-18] fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose (FDG) accumulation on FDG-positron emission tomography-computed tomography examination (standardized uptake value-max value 5.4). A blood culture examination was performed to rule out bacteremia, however, no bacteria were identified. We then performed a needle biopsy and confirmed the diagnosis of UPS; subsequently, the patient underwent a wide-margin resection. A few days after the surgery, her CRP, leukocyte, and neutrophil levels decreased to 0.305 mg/dL, 2.83 × 103/uL, and 50.1%, respectively. This case demonstrated that UPS with inflammation should be treated surgically as soon as possible after ruling out other sources of infection to achieve a favorable prognosis.To define the growing significance of cellular targets and/or effectors of cancer drugs, we examined the fitness dependency of cellular targets and effectors of cancer drug targets across human cancer cells from 19 cancer types. We observed that the deletion of 35 out of 47 cellular effectors and/or targets of oncology drugs did not result in the expected loss of cell fitness in appropriate cancer types for which drugs targeting or utilizing these molecules for their actions were approved. Additionally, our analysis recognized 43 cellular molecules as fitness genes in several cancer types in which these drugs were not approved, and thus, providing clues for repurposing certain approved oncology drugs in such cancer types. For example, we found a widespread upregulation and fitness dependency of several components of the mevalonate and purine biosynthesis pathways (currently targeted by bisphosphonates, statins, and pemetrexed in certain cancers) and an association between the overexpression of these molecules and reduction in the overall survival duration of patients with breast and other hard-to-treat cancers, for which such drugs are not approved.
