Aerobic training and breathing exercises are interventions that improve asthma control. However, the outcomes of these 2 interventions have not been compared. To compare the effects of aerobic training versus breathing exercises on clinical control (primary outcome), quality of life, exercise capacity, and airway inflammation in outpatients with moderate-to-severe asthma. Fifty-four asthmatics were randomized into either the aerobic training group (AG, n= 29) or the breathing exercise group (BG, n= 25). Both interventions lasted for 24 sessions (2/week, 40 minutes/session). Asthma clinical control (Asthma Control Questionnaire [ACQ]), quality of life (Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire), asthma symptom-free days (ASFD), airway inflammation, exercise capacity, psychological distress (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), daily-life physical activity (DLPA), and pulmonary function were evaluated before, immediately after, and 3 months after the intervention. Both interventions presented similar resustress, physical activity, and airway inflammation. However, a greater proportion of participants in the AG presented improvement in asthma control and reduced use of rescue medication. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is used as an add-on treatment for epilepsy. This study aimed to use Taiwanese nationwide registry data to analyze the therapeutic effects of VNS in children with refractory epilepsy (RE) and try to explore predictive factors of VNS treatment effectiveness. This retrospective study collected data from December 2007 to December 2014. Patient variables included gender, age, VNS implantation date, epilepsy duration, seizure frequency, seizure type, etiology, and antiepileptic drug (AED) history. We divided patients into three groups Group I as seizure frequency >80 times per month, Group II as seizure frequency 24-80 times per month, and Group III as seizure frequency <24 times per month. Multivariate regression analysis was performed to determine predictors of seizure frequency reduction after VNS treatment. A total of 80 patients were included in this study. Three or more AED types were prescribed for 61 (77.1%) patients. Gallstones are uncommon in infants and children and Asian children are thought to have very low risk. Diagnoses have increased in recent years with the widespread use of ultrasonography (USG). This study aimed to review our experience with risk factors, complications, and treatment of pediatric gallstones in low-incidence populations. We retrospectively reviewed patients younger than 18 years old diagnosed with gallstones using USG between November 2006 and December 2012 in a tertiary referral hospital in Taiwan. Demographic information including age and sex, follow-up period, USG findings, predisposing factors, complications, treatment approaches and outcomes were recorded. Ninety-eight children with gallstones diagnosed with USG were enrolled and reviewed in our study. Females comprised 55% of patients, with no specific gender tendency. No risk factor could be identified in 30.8% of patients. The most common risk factors were cephalosporin (CS) use, presence of a choledochal cyst (CC), and spherocytosenign. CS use was the most common risk factor and did not predict a higher dissolution rate. Type IVa CC was also an important risk factor associated with a high recurrence rate. Conservative treatment and oral UDCA may be reasonable strategies in most patients, unless complications are present. Immune-related hepatitis (IRH) occurs in 1 to 18% of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-treated patients. Steroids are usually recommended for grade≥3 IRH, but their impact on IRH resolution and patient survival remains unclear. We retrospectively analyzed a prospective cohort of 339 patients treated at Saint-Louis Hospital (Paris, France) with ICIs for advanced melanoma. Cases of grade≥3 IRH were collected and analyzed. Two groups were compared for their biological features and time for IRH resolution and survival patients who received steroids (steroids group SG) and patients who did not (nonsteroids group NSG). Grade≥3 IRH was observed in 21 patients. Thirteen were treated with steroids (SG), and 8 were not (NSG). The median time for toxicity resolution was 49 days in SG and 24 days in NSG (P=0.62). All but one patient showed a favorable outcome. Two-year survival was 56% in SG and 54% in NSG (P=0.83). Higher transaminase (P=0.002) and bilirubin (P=0.008) and lower prothrombin (P=0.035) levels were observed in SG than in NSG. For 8 (4 SG/4 NSG) patients, ICI was resumed without any hepatitis relapse. The vidian canal acts as landmark for the identification of the petrous carotid artery, especially during extended endoscopic endonasal approaches in cranial base surgeries. In order to localize the canal and to understand the relationship of pneumatization of pterygoid process to the type of vidian canal, this study was designed. The objective was to describe the anatomical relationship of pneumatization of the pterygoid process with types of vidian canal. The length of vidian canal, relationship to medial plate of pterygoid process and relationship to the petrous part of internal carotid artery were evaluated. Head computer tomography scans of 52 individuals for suspected paranasal pathology were studied. The degree of sphenoid sinus pneumatization, pterygoid process pneumatization and types of vidian canal (type 1, 2 and 3) were noted. The length of vidian canal, distance from the plane of medial pterygoid plate and relation of vidian canal to the junction of petrous and Gasserian (ascending) part of internal carotid artery was noted.
