Postoperatively, 7 patients (70%) remained in the AAO-HNS class A or B hearing category. None of the patients had new vestibular symptoms, and all had House-Brackmann grade 1 facial function. Nervus intermedius dysfunction was observed in 1 patient preoperatively, which worsened postoperatively. Two patients had new nervus intermedius symptoms postoperatively. Improvement of facial nerve and hearing outcomes is feasible through the intentional preservation of the vestibular nerves in the resection of small VSs. Although measurement of intracranial pressure (ICP) has occasionally been utilized in children with craniosynostosis (CSS), data on parameters of pulsatile ICP in CSS are still lacking, and the role of pulsatile ICP measurements in the management of CSS is not well established. From our department's database, we retrieved the data from children in whom the measurement of static and pulsatile ICP was a part of the diagnostic work-up in different clinical situations related to CSS. Both clinical and ICP data were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed. We identified 49 children with CSS, median age 4.4years (range 0.2-18.9), in whom a total of 67 diagnostic ICP measurements were undertaken between 2002 and 2014. The CSS was syndromal in 23 cases. The rationale for ICP measurement was a question of indication for cranial vault expansion surgery (CVES) in 12 patients (Group 1), of its timing in 10 patients (Group 2), of suspected abnormally elevated ICP or hydrocephalus in 11 patients (Group 3), of indicatioe diagnostic measurement of static and pulsatile ICP useful in selecting the optimal treatment modality and timing of surgery. The SDASH score, Hijdra score, BNI grading system, chronic hydrocephalus ensuing from SAH score (CHESS), Graeb score, and modified Graeb score (mGS) were calculated for a cohort of aSAH patients. Extensive craniocervical pneumatization (CCP) refers to an abnormal pneumatization extended from the temporal bone into adjacent bone structures, especially the skull base and the craniocervical junction. The etiology remains controversial; however several studies reported a correlation with recurrent Valsalva maneuvers or Eustachian tube dysfunction. Although some cases requiring surgical treatment have been reported, conservative treatment remains the gold standard. The authors aimed to describe a case of CCP, complicated by a spontaneous fracture of a pneumatized left occipital condyle. Furthermore, they reviewed all previously reported cases of fractures in CCP in order to propose a standardized approach to this pathology. A total of 148 studies were retrieved. Of those, 23 studies (including 26 patients in addition to our case) were included in the review. These studies consisted of case reports or small case series (up to 3 patients). In 3 patients (11.1%), bone pneumatization involved C0; all remaining patients had both C0 and C1 pneumatization, while in 7 cases (25.9%), an extension to C2 and/or C3 was reported. Radiological follow-up was performed in 20 patients (74.1%), showing in all of the cases either stability (6 patients, 22.2%), improvement, or complete resolution (6 patients, 22.2% vs 8 patients, 29.7%). Two patients underwent surgical intervention. Primary malignant brain tumor is a severe disease with a poor prognosis causing reduced life expectancy and possible alteration in the perception of time. The aim of this study was to gain deeper insight into the perception of time from the perspective of patients with brain cancer as they pass through the Danish Integrated Brain Cancer Pathway at a university hospital in Denmark. Data were generated by shadowing six patients and relatives during their visit to and hospitalisation in a neurosurgical department. Through one constructed case, three perspectives of time were identified. The patient's perception of time during his illness, the healthcare system's perception of time and, finally, an ethical time perspective. The analysis showed a discrepancy between patients' and healthcare professionals' perception of time. Furthermore, the results revealed an ethical time dimension. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the perception of time among seriously ill patients and may further healthcare professionals' awareness of how to support patients in achieving a more meaningful use of their remaining lifetime.
