Our results suggest that fNIRS may be suitable for understanding the cortical effects of nGVS.Refugee youth face challenges in navigating different cultures in destination countries and require better support. However, we know little about the adaptation experiences of African refugee youth in Canada. Accordingly, this paper presents the adaptation experiences of African refugee youth and makes recommendations for ways to support youth. Twenty-eight youth took part in semi-structured interviews. Using a thematic analysis approach, qualitative data revealed four themes of (1) 'disruption in the family,' where youth talked about being separated from their parent(s) and the effect on their adaptation; (2) 'our cultures are different,' where youth shared differences between African and mainstream Canadian culture; (3) 'searching for identity a cultural struggle,' where youth narrated their struggles in finding identity; and (4) 'learning the new culture,' where youth narrated how they navigate African and Canadian culture. Overall, the youth presented with challenges in adapting to cultures in Canada and highlighted how these struggles were influenced by their migration journey. To promote better settlement and adaptation, youth could benefit from supports and activities that promote cultural awareness with attention to their migration experiences. Service providers could benefit from newcomer-friendly and culturally sensitive training on salient ways of how experiences of multiple cultures affect integration outcomes.The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of a phytogenic water additive (PWA) on growth performance and underlying factors involved in pigs fed with low-protein (LP)/high-carbohydrate diets. Forty-eight weaned barrows were allotted to six treatments for 4 weeks CON-NS, control (CON) diet-no PWA; CON-LS, CON diet-low dose PWA (4 mL/L); CON-HS, CON diet-high dose PWA (8 mL/L); LP-NS, LP diet-no PWA; LP-LS, LP diet-low dose PWA; LP-HS, LP diet-high dose PWA. Relative to CON-NS, pigs fed with CON-HS had increased average daily gain, body weight and serum calcium (Ca) and phosphorous (P) and had decreased mRNA abundance of solute carrier family 7 member 11 and solute carrier family 6 member 19 in jejunum. Compared to LP-NS, pigs fed with LP-HS had increased muscle lean%, decreased muscle fat%, decreased serum Ca and increased serum P. Compared to their NS counterparts, CON-LS, CON-HS, and LP-LS increased the concentration of plasma essential AA and those fed with CON-HS and LP-HS tended to reduce the abundance of the solute carrier family 7 member 1 transcript in skeletal muscle. Thus, PWA improved the performance of weaned pigs fed with protein-adequate diets likely through increased blood essential AA and affected the muscle composition when dietary protein was deficient.In the marine environment, sulfate ions and chloride ions are abundant. Therefore, sulfate attack and chloride ion attack are common failure forms of marine concrete. Mg-Al hydrotalcite is a layered bimetallic hydroxide, which can be used as guest molecular adsorbent. In this experiment, we synthesized Mg-Al hydrotalcite, and the crystal state, surface morphology, and composition of this adsorbent were investigated by modern micro-analysis technology. Mg-Al hydrotalcite was added into the prepared target ion solution, to explore the influence of various factors on the adsorption performance of Mg-Al hydrotalcite, and then calcined Mg-Al hydrotalcite was added into cement paste, to study the mechanical properties and durability of the paste samples. The experimental results show that the optimum conditions for adsorption of chloride ions by calcined Mg-Al hydrotalcite are an adsorption time of 4 h, temperature of 35 °C, LDO (calcined Mg-Al hydrotalcite) dosage of 3.5 g/L, and a pH of 8. The adsorption effect of sulfate ion is best when the adsorption time is 6 h, the temperature is 35 °C, the dosage of LDO is 4 g/L, and the pH = 8. The optimal adsorption conditions of calcined Mg-Al hydrotalcite for chloride ion and sulfate ion are not completely the same, and the adsorption of these two ions in mixed solution shows competitive adsorption. Compared with the common paste specimens without Mg-Al hydrotalcite, the mechanical properties and deformation properties of cement specimens can be significantly improved by adding Mg-Al hydrotalcite.Immunotherapy is now a recognized treatment option for several types of cancer. The exact role and molecular/genetic action of ICIs in diabetes are still not well understood. Elucidating the underlying mechanisms in a proper fashion would allow better refining of biomarkers that would help diagnose patients at risk of altered immune system homeostasis, but would also hold the potential of new therapeutic options for diabetes. In the present narrative review, we propose to discuss the case of autoimmune diabetes following treatment with ICIs and the role of ICIs in the pathophysiology of diabetes. We also present some scarce available data on interesting potential immune therapies for diabetes.Eczema affects one in five children and can have a substantial impact on quality of life. This qualitative study aimed to explore children's views and experiences of eczema and what may affect treatment adherence from their perspective. We found that children do not typically view eczema as a long-term condition, and topical treatments (predominately emollients) were seen to provide effective symptom relief. Uncertainty around co-managing at home was expressed as children typically felt that parental reminders and assistance with applying different types of topical treatments were still needed. For some children, eczema can be difficult to manage at school due to a lack of convenient access and appropriate spaces to apply creams and psychosocial consequences such as attracting unwanted attention from peers and feeling self-conscious.
