Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common malignant soft tissue tumor in the pediatric age, especially in the head and neck region; in the orbit and the nasopharynx. The middle ear is a very rare site for this neoplasm as it accounts for only 10 % of head neck rhabdomyosarcoma. We report here the case of a three years-old child who was admitted to the emergency room for a left parotid and retro-auricular swelling with grade V facial palsy. The patient experienced chronic otorrhea with left facial palsy for two months. Two weeks later, a left parotid swelling appeared and gradually increased in size with weight loss. Computed tomography showed a slightly dense tissue lesion in the left mastoid. The patient underwent a diagnostic mastoidectomy. Pathology and immunohistochemical study were compatible with an embryonic rhabdomyosarcoma. Rhabdomyosarcoma should be considered as a differential diagnosis of any mastoiditis resistant to treatment in a young child. Because of its serious prognosis, rhabdomyosarcoma must be diagnosed at an early stage to increase chances of recovery. Ambulatory surgery has the advantages of shortening the waiting time for hospitalization and reducing medical expenses. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/vardenafil.html It has been more and more widely used in recent years in China. The patients admitted in Ambulatory Surgery Center are generally in good condition (ASA I-II), with clear diagnosis, short operation time, low operation risk and low incidence of postoperative complications. It is easy to paralyze the medical staff, neglecting the importance of preoperative preparation, and then causing physical and psychological damage to the patient. We describe the case of a 21-year-old woman, presented with erratic respiratory rate with a maximum of 40 breaths min and a minimum of 7 breaths min after undergoing arthroscopic meniscectomy. The arterial blood gas analysis revealed a disruption of the acid-base homeostasis with respiratory alkalosis and metabolic acidosis, while all other examinations were normal. Drug-related adverse reactions, emergence agitation or psychiatric factors may have caused the observed symptoms. Our observations demonstrate that more extensive clinical and psychological examinations prior to surgery involving general anesthesia may help in avoiding anesthesia-related complications, even in young individuals from the Ambulatory Surgery Center. This report is a case of a suicide attempt by bleach ingestion. mistaken for gastric cancer after oral contrast studies and esophagogastroduodenoscopy. We report this case to encourage physicians to take this etiology into consideration as part of differential diagnosis especially in front of a secretive patient. We report a case of a 38-year-old lady admitted for an acute onset of symptoms leading to a diagnosis of antral stenosis. Further workup which included endoscopic and surgical biopsies failed to reveal an underlying malignancy. After 24 days of inconclusive inpatient investigations, and due to failure of conservative treatment, distal gastrectomy was performed. Final pathology also revealed an absence of any signs of malignancy, and reported only inflammatory changes. One month after discharge, the patient confessed that she had attempted suicide by ingestion of corrosive agents before the symptoms started and wanted to keep the incident as a secret. Gastric stenosis is seldom encountered in adult patients, however, it can occasionally result secondary to gastric ulcer disease, malignancies, foreign body ingestion, certain drugs or chemicals, or after endoscopic or surgical interventions. These etiologies do not usually cause acute gastric obstruction, and usually follow a more indolent course. Identification of an underlying etiology is mandatory to determine the proper medical or surgical treatment to relieve the obstructive symptoms. We report this bizarre case to encourage physicians to keep this etiology in mind in otherwise unexplained gastric stenosis. The structures and vibrational properties of Mg3(PO4)2 polymorphs were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The obvious different PO stretching vibrational modes were experimentally observed for Mg3(PO4)2-I, II, III. The calculated vibrational frequencies were in good agreement with measurements. All the observed vibrational modes for Mg3(PO4)2-I, II, III were well assigned based on the calculations, which provided a support for investigating and comparing vibrational properties of three Mg3(PO4)2 polymorphs.Three novel and facile calixarene derivatives (5, 6 and 7), which were appended with four rhodamine units at the upper rim of calixarene skeleton, were firstly prepared and evaluated for selective detection of metal ions in solution. Receptors (5) and (7) indicated immediate turn on fluorescence output toward Hg2+ ions over other most competitive metal ions with the ultralow detection limits, indicating their high efficiency and reliability. The binding response to Hg2+ ions in solution was also observed through a chromogenic change (from colorless to pale pink). Furthermore, in vitro and bio-imaging studies with MCF-7 or MIA PaCa-2 cell lines were also performed to investigate the use of receptors in biological systems in order to monitor of mercury ions. Results showed that new receptors (5) or (7) were cell permeable and suitable for real-time imaging of Hg2+ in living cells (MCF-7) or (MIA PaCa-2) without any damage to healthy cell lines (HEK 293).
