ROC curve analysis showed that m-FA-TKV exhibited better diagnostic performance than m-FA values (P = 0.022). m-FA-TKV obtained by DTI significantly improves the accuracy of kidney function assessment in CKD patients. m-FA-TKV obtained by DTI significantly improves the accuracy of kidney function assessment in CKD patients. To review the literature regarding any clinically significant association between prostate size and the incidence of prostate cancer (PCa). No previous review or meta-analysis has reported this clinical question. A thorough literature review was performed using PubMed and applying the 'PRISMA' guidelines. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were defined. A total of 30 articles met the search criteria. Of these 30 articles, 27 reported an inverse correlation between prostate volume (PV) and incidence of biopsy-proven PCa. The remaining three articles provided no clear statistically significant results, and there was no study showing a direct or positive correlation between PV and the incidence of PCa. This review and meta-analysis is the first report summarizing the literature on the clinical question of whether prostate size affects the incidence of PCa. Ninety percent of studies (27/30) show significant evidence supporting the hypothesis that prostate size may be protective of PCa. This review and the oBPH and PCa.The objective of this study was to evaluate the educational impact following the implementation of a robotic thoracic surgery program on cardiothoracic (CT) surgery trainees. We hypothesized that the introduction of a robotic thoracic surgery program would adversely affect the CT surgery resident experience, decreasing operative involvement and subsequent competency of surgical procedures. CT surgery residents and thoracic surgery attendings from a single academic institution were administered a recurring, electronic survey from September 2019 to September 2020 following each robotic thoracic surgery case. Surveys evaluated resident involvement and operative performance. This study was exempt from review by our Institutional Review Board. Attendings and residents completed surveys for 86 and 75 cases, respectively. Residents performed > 50% of the operation independently at the surgeon console in 66.2 and 73.3% of cases according to attending and resident responses, respectively. The proportion of trainees able to perform > 75% of the operation increased with each increasing year in training (p = 0.002). Based on the Global Evaluative Assessment of Robotic Skills grading tool, third-year residents averaged higher scores compared to first-year residents (22.9 versus 17.4 out of 30 possible points, p  less then  0.001), indicating that more extensive prior operative experience could shorten the learning curve of robotic thoracic surgery. CT surgery residents remain actively involved in an operative role during the establishment of a robotic thoracic surgery program. The transition to a robotic thoracic surgery platform appears feasible in a large academic setting without jeopardizing the educational experience of resident trainees. The close topographic relationship between vascular and osseous structures in the condylar and subcondylar region and marked variability in the arterial course has been revealed by both imaging and cadaveric studies. This study aimed to verify the previously published information in a large sample and to determine a safe surgical region. We analyzed the three-dimensional time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography images of 300 individuals. The mean distance between the middle meningeal artery and the apex of the condyle or the most medial point of the condyle was 18.8mm (range 11.2-25.9mm) or 14.5mm (range 8.8-22.9mm) respectively. The course of the maxillary artery relative to the lateral pterygoid muscle was medial in 45.7% of cases and lateral in 54.3%. An asymmetric course was evident in 66 patients (22%). The mean distance between the maxillary artery and condylar process at the deepest point of the mandibular notch was 6.2mm in sides exhibiting a medial course (range 3.7-9.8mm) and 6.6mm in sides exhibiting a lateral course (range 3.9-10.4mm). The distances were significantly influenced by age, gender, and the course of the maxillary artery. Our study emphasizes the marked inter- and intra-individual variability of the maxillary and middle meningeal arterial courses. We confirmed the proximity of the arteries to the condylar process. Extensive surgical experience and thorough preparation for each individual case are essential to prevent iatrogenic vascular injury. However, the cellular and molecular underpinnings of phototherapy-mediated functional recovery are yet to be studied. The present study examines the effectiveness of short photoperiod regime (SPR; 618-h lightdark cycle) in restoring the cognitive functions in ventral subicular lesioned rats. Bilateral ventral subicular lesion (VSL) resulted in significant impairment of spatial navigational abilities when tested in the Morris water maze (MWM) task. Further, VSL resulted in reduced expression of glucocorticoid receptors (GRs) and activity-regulated cytoskeletal (Arc) protein and suppression of neurogenesis in the hippocampus. VSL also suppressed the magnitude of long-term potentiation (LTP) in the hippocampal Schaffer collateral-CA1 synapses. However, exposure to SPR for 21 days showed significant restoration of spatial performance in the MWM task as the ventral subicular lesioned rats could deploy higher cognitive allocentric navigational strategies to reach the hidden platform. Further, SPR resulted in enhanced expression of hippocampal GR and Arc protein and neurogenesis but not hippocampal LTP suggestive of appropriate need-based SPR intervention. In conclusion, the study demonstrates the effectiveness of SPR in establishing functional recovery as well as the possible molecular and cellular basis of cognitive recovery in a rat model of neurodegeneration. Such studies provide a framework in understanding the efficacy of non-pharmacological strategies in establishing functional recovery in neurodegenerative conditions.
