Data were collected from adult patients at a free clinic using a self-administered survey from August to December 2018. Higher levels of social norms to exercise were associated with higher levels of all aspects of self-management ability. To assess the relation between renal function and delirium and to assess and compare the relation between cerebral white matter lesion (WML) and renal function as estimated by three formulas for the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in older adult hospitalized veterans with and without delirium. Commonly used formulas to assess renal function-the four-variable Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD), the six-variable MDRD, and the Cockcroft-Gault eGFR equations-were used to assess renal function in 100 older adult hospitalized veterans with delirium (delirium group) and 100 hospitalized veterans without delirium (nondelirium group) that were age, sex, and race matched. WML location and volumes were assessed using brain computed tomography imaging for each of the 200 veterans in the study. One radiologist, blinded to the diagnoses of the veterans, examined head computed tomography scans for WML in the cortex, subcortex (frontal, temporal, parietal, occipital lobes), basal ganglia (globus palages of renal failure and WMLs in specific areas of the brain, with the MDRD-4 being the least associative with the fewest specific areas and the Cockcroft-Gault formula being the most associative with the most specific areas. We sought to evaluate hospital resource usage patterns and determine risk factors for neonatal withdrawal syndrome (NWS) in the United States. Using the 2016 Kids' Inpatient Database (KID), we conducted a retrospective cross-sectional analysis of a nationally representative sample of neonates with NWS. The KID is the largest publicly available pediatric (20 years of age and younger) inpatient care database in the United States. We analyzed a stratified probability sampling of 3.1 million pediatric hospital discharges weighted to 6.3 million national discharges. Descriptive statistics for hospital and patient characteristics were identified and binary variables were analyzed using the Student test. Multivariate regression was performed to assess the predictors of NWS. We excluded discharges if total cost or hospital length of stay (LOS) exceeded mean values by >3 standard deviations. Hospitalizations with NWS diagnosis were identified using the code P96.1 in any 1 of 30 discharge diagnostic fieldst mothers and their infants. Since 2000, the number of infants treated for NWS in the US neonatal intensive care units has increased fivefold, accounting for an estimated $1.5 billion in annual hospital expenditures. The high hospital resource usage among NWS neonates raises the possibility that care for expectant mothers who use opiates and their newborns may be able to be delivered in a more efficient and effective manner. Arkansas has the highest incidence of teen pregnancy in 15- to 19-year-olds in the United States, and Latinas remain one of the cultural groups that are most at risk of becoming adolescent mothers. Teen mothers and their children are more likely to face poor socioeconomic conditions and negative health sequelae that perpetuate the cycle of poverty. Tailored interventions meant for families, communities, and/or churches should address both abstinence and other types of contraception to educate young people how to stay healthy, prevent unwanted pregnancy, and empower them to make informed decisions. To develop effective educational interventions, it is essential to understand the current knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes toward teen pregnancy among Latino parents in Arkansas. Adult Latino parents were surveyed at two clinical sites, one church and one school in Little Rock between January 16, 2019 and February 23, 2019. The survey instrument was conducted in Spanish and included questions on demographics, knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs about teenage pregnancy.
