The neural substrate of high intelligence performances remains not well understood. Based on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) which provides microstructural information of white matter fibers, we proposed in this work to investigate the relationship between structural brain connectivity and intelligence quotient (IQ) scores. Fifty-seven children (8-12 y.o.) underwent a MRI examination, including conventional T1-weighted and DTI sequences, and neuropsychological testing using the fourth edition of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV), providing an estimation of the Full-Scale Intelligence Quotient (FSIQ) based on four subscales verbal comprehension index (VCI), perceptual reasoning index (PRI), working memory index (WMI), and processing speed index (PSI). Correlations between the IQ scores and both graphs and diffusivity metrics were explored. First, we found significant correlations between the increased integrity of WM fiber-bundles and high intelligence scores. Second, the graph theory analysis showed that integration and segregation graph metrics were positively and negatively correlated with WISC-IV scores, respectively. These results were mainly driven by significant correlations between FSIQ, VCI, and PRI and graph metrics in the temporal and parietal lobes. In conclusion, these findings demonstrated that intelligence performances are related to the integrity of WM fiber-bundles as well as the density and homogeneity of WM brain networks.Marine forests have declined in many urbanized regions in recent years. One cause is the inflow of fine particles into coastal rocky shores. We examined the influence of sub-micrometre (sub-micro) particles on the early growth stages of the large brown macrophyte Ecklonia bicyclis. The percentage of substrate attachment of zoospores decreased with an increase in sub-micro sediments. As the size of the particles decreased, the negative effect became greater. There was an increase in poor levels of gametophyte survival and growth as more and smaller sediment was deposited. We consider that the causes of these phenomena owing to increasing amounts of sediment is a decrease in availability of substrate for zoospore attachment and that of area for substance exchange on the gametophytes. We also evaluated the effects in sea areas, based on the amount and size distribution of seabed sediment in the algal communities deforested by particles, and found that the inhibition of zoospore attachment and gametophyte growth by sub-micro particles was remarkably large. The sub-micro sediment on the substrate has seriously negative effects on the early stages of macrophytes. Inflow of very fine particles to natural marine forests may result in severe degradation of rocky reef ecosystems.Numerous questionnaires are available on Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) towards antibiotics' use by adults, but none of these questionnaires is fully validated. We undertook an exhaustive literature review to design a comprehensive KAP questionnaire concerning the personal use of antibiotics in Galicia, North Spain. The Item Content Validity Index (I-CVI) and modified Kappa statistic (K*), confirmed the content validity of the questions (0.78 ≤ I-CVI ≤ 1.00 and 0.78 ≤ K* ≤ 1.00). The S-CVI statistic showed the content validity of the scale (S-CVI/Ave 0.95). Following face validity and pilot testing, the Test-Retest Reliability in a sample of 145 adults confirmed the reliability of the questions. We carried out Confirmatory Factor Analysis using cross loadings and modification indices to choose the most adequate model in data collected from 844 adults. We estimated the indicators of model fit and demonstrated that the selected model has a good to excellent fit, thus establishing the construct validity. The final version of the questionnaire was highly accepted by the general adult population as reflected by the response rate (95.85%) and the low percentage of unanswered questions (0.4-2.7%). Our fully validated questionnaire could prove useful for research as it permits generating high quality data and reducing measurement error.There are few materials that are broadly used for fabricating optical metasurfaces for visible light applications. Gallium phosphide (GaP) is a material that, due to its optical properties, has the potential to become a primary choice but due to the difficulties in fabrication, GaP thin films deposited on transparent substrates have never been exploited. In this article we report the design, fabrication, and characterization of three different amorphous GaP metasurfaces obtained through sputtering. To deepen the knowledge of the origin and diversity of the Palenque parental lineages, we analysed a sample of 81 individuals for the entire mtDNA Control Region as well as 92 individuals for 27 Y-STRs and 95 for 51 Y-SNPs. The results confirmed the strong isolation of the Palenque, with some degree of influx of Native American maternal lineages, and a European admixture exclusively mediated by men. Due to the high genetic drift observed, a pairwise FST analysis with available data on African populations proved to be inadequate for determining population affinities. In contrast, when a phylogenetic approach was used, it was possible to infer the phylogeographic origin of some lineages in Palenque. Contradicting previous studies indicating a single African origin, our results evidence parental genetic contributions from widely different African regions.Evaluating the performance of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test in population-based screening with receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve often neglects the time dimension. Asymptomatic cases with negative PSA test would have been missed if sojourn time is not taken into account to allow for cases surfacing into the clinical phase. Data included 20,796 men with PSA test at the first screening round was used from population-based Finnish prostate cancer screening trial during 1996-1999. Cancers detected at the first screen, together with interval cancers ascertained during 4-year follow-up were expediently used to estimate sensitivity and specificity. A sojourn-time-corrected model was applied to estimating the possible false negative cases for those with PSA  less then  4 ng/ml for correcting the ROC curve. The estimated sensitivity estimate was reduced from 94.4% without correction to 68.8% with correction but the estimated specificity was identical (89.4% vs. 89.2%) at cutoff of 3 ng/ml.
