To assess the impact on patient experience scores of giving an ice pop (Popsicle, Good Humor-Breyers, Oakland, CA) to patients in a pediatric emergency department (ED). A prospective two-center trial was conducted at a tertiary academic pediatric ED and a community ED from January 1, 2018, through March 31, 2018. The intervention arm gave an ice pop to all eligible patients 0 to 14 years of age on even-numbered days versus conventional practice on odd-numbered days. Press Ganey top box scores were then compared. Of 4574 pediatric (0 to 14 years of age) patient visits, patient experience surveys were delivered to 1346 families (29.4%) and 152 were returned (11.3%). Eighty-four surveys were returned for even-numbered day visits and 68 for odd-numbered day visits. There was a significant increase in patient experience scores associated with ice pop administration days for questions that asked about doctor's concern for comfort 70.2% versus 57.4% 05), doctor's courtesy 76.2% versus 61.8% ( =.04), and doctor taking time to listen 72.6% versus 57.4% ( =.03). A low-cost intervention resulted in significantly increased patient experience scores in select domains. Further study should explore the durability of the effect.The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of serial amnioinfusion therapy (SAT) for pulmonary hypoplasia in lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) or congenital renal anomalies (CRAs), introduce patient selection criteria, and present a case of SAT in bilateral renal agenesis. We conducted a search of the MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases for articles published from database inception to November 10, 2017. Eight studies with 17 patients (7 LUTO, 8 CRA, and 2 LUTO + CRA) were included in the study. The median age of the mothers was 31 years (N=9; interquartile range [IQR], 29-33.5 years), the number of amnioinfusions was 7 (N=17; IQR, 4.5-21), gestational age at first amnioinfusion was 23 weeks and 4 days (N=17; IQR, 21-24.07), gestational age at delivery was 32 weeks and 2 days (N=17; IQR, 30 weeks to 35 weeks and 6.5 days), birthweight of newborns was 3.7 kg (N= 9; IQR, 2.7-3.7 kg), Apgar score at 1 minute was 2.5 (N=8; IQR, 1-6.5), and Apgar score at 5 minutes was 5.5 (N=8; IQR, 0-7.75). In conclusion, SAT may provide fetal pulmonary palliation by reducing the risk of newborn pulmonary compromise secondary to oligohydramnios. Multidisciplinary research efforts are required to further inform treatment and counseling guidelines. To determine the prevalence of and risk factors for advanced fibrosis in patients born from 1945 through 1965 (birth cohort) who underwent testing for hepatitis C virus (HCV). Data were extracted from the electronic health record of all patients receiving primary care at a single academic institution who underwent HCV testing between September 8, 2010, and March 5, 2018. The birth cohort patients were the primary focus of the study. Fibrosis 4 (FIB-4) and aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index (APRI) scores were calculated to screen for fibrosis. During the study period, 7097 birth cohort patients had HCV antibody testing, 3462 (48.8%) of whom were men, 6435 (91.0%) were white, 1028 (14.5%) had diabetes mellitus, 2,034 (36.5%) had an alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level greater than 30 U/L, and 2,396 (34.2%) had body mass index of 30 kg/m or greater. To assess the effects of weekend admission vs weekday admission on the management and outcomes of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Adult ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-STEMI (NSTEMI) hospital admissions were identified using the National (Nationwide) Inpatient Sample (2000-2016). Interhospital transfers were excluded. Timing of coronary angiography (CA) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) relative to the day of admission was identified. Outcomes of interest included in-hospital mortality, receipt of early CA, timing of CA and PCI, resource utilization, and discharge disposition for weekend vs weekday admissions. Of the 9,041,819 AMI admissions, 2,406,876 (26.6%) occurred on weekends.
