This investigation found significant cross-modality correlations in cardiac function metrics and SCG signals features from healthy subjects. Additionally, through comparison to normative ranges from healthy subjects, it observed correspondences between pathological flow and abnormal SCG. This may support development of an easy clinical test used to identify potential aortic flow abnormalities.PURPOSE To examine the prevalence of myopia in primary school children in Hong Kong, and the risk factors for myopia development. STUDY DESIGN A cross-sectional study. METHODS Subjective refraction and axial length were measured in all participants. Structured questionnaire was completed by the parents to assess risk factors of myopia. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/PLX-4032.html RESULTS A total of 1396 children (491 boys) from Grade 1 to Grade 6 from 4 primary schools in Sham Shui Po district of Hong Kong participated. All participants underwent non-cycloplegic refraction. The overall prevalence of myopia (spherical equivalent, SE ≤ -0.5 diopter [D]) was 37.7%, which significantly increased with age, from 13.3% at grade 1 to 54.7% at grade 6. The prevalence of moderate myopia (-3.0D less then SE less then -6.0D) increased from 1.6% at grade 1 to 18.2% at grade 6 and the prevalence of high myopia (SE less then = -6.0 D and/or AL ≥ 26.5 mm) increased from 0.94% (7/747) in grade 1-3 students to 1.85% (12/649) in grade 4-6 students. Among the students with myopia, only 23.6% of the parents knew their children had refractive errors and only 19.8% of the children wore glasses. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed myopia development was significantly associated with older age (OR = 1.36, P = 0.008), better academic ranking in class in the preceding semester (OR = 1.01, P = 0.02) and absence of routine eye check (OR = 2.70, P = 0.001). CONCLUSION The prevalence of myopia in primary school students in Hong Kong is high. There is a low level of awareness of refractive errors among parents, and high proportion of under-correction, resulting in suboptimal vision.PURPOSE Occasionally, a patient requiring computed tomography (CT) with poor venous access or in an unstable condition may have a sheath as their only form of IV access. Many institutions prohibit contrast power injection through the side ports, for concern for rupture. We hypothesize that under conditions encountered in CT scanning, the side arm of the sheath introducer is safe for power injection of contrast material. METHODS In this in vitro study, we injected contrast at different flow rates varying from 2 to 8 ml/s, through the side port of the sheath. Time-pressure graphs were obtained for each injection from the injector display. The assembly was observed for any signs of leakage or material failure. RESULTS There was not a single event of leak, rupture, or displacement. Maximum pressures were within the range of conventional contrast administrations. CONCLUSION This study suggests that iodinated contrast can safely be injected through the side port of a venous sheath. The main purpose of surgery for tuberculum sellae meningioma (TSM) is the improvement and/or stabilization of patients' visual function. Options for the side of lateral approaches usually were restricted for nondominant right-sided craniotomy or to the side of impaired vision (ipsilateral approaches). Although the safety and effectiveness of ipsilateral transcranial approach was proved, there are some doubts and discussions about the contralateral craniotomy. We retrospectively analyzed the series of contralateral surgeries of TMS and their visual outcomes comparing with ipsilateral approach. Twenty-six patients with TSM were operated on from 2010 to 2019 (F/M 20/6, mean age 49 years), in 17 (65%) we performed contralateral and in 9 (35%) ipsilateral approach. All procedures were performed via fronto-lateral craniotomy. Gross total resection (GTR) was achieved in 21 (81%) cases and in all but one patient we noticed visual improvement after surgery (96%). Optic canal unroofing with mobilization of more affected visual nerve was necessary in 5/9 pts of ipsilateral vs 3/17 pts of contralateral group. We had no significant postoperative complications. There was no difference in outcome between ipsilateral and contralateral fronto-lateral approaches for TSM resection; thus, contralateral approach was at least as safe and effective as ipsilateral.Adrenal insufficiency (AI) is an immune-related adverse event of immune checkpoint inhibitors and on occasion could be serious. There have been few reports of clinical information regarding AI associated with anti-programmed cell death protein-1 (anti-PD-1) antibody in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Patients with advanced NSCLC treated with anti-PD-1 antibodies between December 2015 and October 2017 were identified from the medical records of our institution. We investigated the frequency, symptoms, test results, and treatment outcomes of AI, and prognosis of patients who developed AI. In total, 282 NSCLC patients were treated with anti-PD-1 antibodies, and 4 patients (1.4%) were diagnosed as AI and 6 patients (2.1%) as suspicious of AI according to the laboratory data or clinical findings. The median follow-up period was 13.6 months. All patients with AI and suspicious of AI were treated with corticosteroid replacement, and performance status (PS) was improved in 50% of patients. Two of 10 patients were thought to have central AI. Six patients of 10 patients continued to receive anti-PD-1 antibodies with corticosteroid hormone replacement after diagnosis. The median progression-free survival and overall survival were 10.2 and 15.4 months, respectively. In conclusion, the incidence of AI among NSCLC patients treated with anti-PD-1 antibodies was similar to previous studies. Corticosteroid replacement improved PS, symptoms, and laboratory data of patients with AI and suspicious of AI. Corticosteroid replacement may contribute to continuation of anti-PD-1 antibodies and survival outcome was preferable in patients with AI and suspicious of AI receiving corticosteroid treatment.A series of energetic polynitromethyl and polynitromethyl substituents were designed and then incorporated into 2,3-dihydro pyrazino [2,3-e] [1, 2, 3, 4] tetrazine molecule. The heat of formations, frontier molecular orbitals, electronic densities, electrostatic potentials, thermal stability, and impact sensitivity of the designed compounds were predicted by density functional theory. Most of the title compounds possess excellent comprehensive performance, that is, large densities (1.90 to 2.35 g cm-3), high detonation velocities (9.00 to 13.02 km s-1), and high detonation pressures (40.00 to 85.41 GPa). Due to their good detonation properties, suitable thermal stability, and other properties, 10 compounds (A2, A3, A6, B3, B6, C6, D3, D6, E3, and E6) were screened as the potential high-energy density compounds. The results and the ideas of molecular design proposed in this work are expected to assist the experimental researchers in the synthesis of new fluorine- and oxygen-rich high-energy density compounds.
