Previous randomized controlled trials (RCTs) made direct comparisons between EPA/DHA versus ALA on improving cardiovascular risk factors and have reached inconsistent findings. https://www.selleckchem.com/Androgen-Receptor.html The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare the effects of EPA/DHA vs. ALA supplementation on cardiometabolic disturbances. Databases including MEDLINE, Embase, PubMed and Cochrane Trials were searched until December 2019. The pooled effects (weighted mean difference, WMD) of outcomes with moderate and high heterogeneity were calculated with a random-effects model, while low heterogeneity was calculated with a fixed-effect model. Fourteen RCTs with 1137 participants who met the eligibility criteria were pooled. Compared with participants supplemented with ALA, those who received EPA/DHA supplementation experienced a greater reduction in triglycerides (TG) (WMD -0.191 mmol l-1; 95% CI -0.249, -0.133) but a greater increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (WMD 0.033 mmol l-1; 95% CI 0.004, 0.062), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) (WMD 0.130 mmol l-1; 95% CI 0.006, 0.253) and total cholesterol (TC) (WMD 0.179 mmol l-1; 95% CI 0.006, 0.352). In subgroup analyses, the WMD for TG was much lower in trials with participants >40 years old (-0.246 mmol l-1; 95% CI -0.325, -0.167). When DHA and EPA were separately administered, modest increases in HDL were observed in trials that used DHA as a supplement (0.161 mmol l-1; 95% CI 0.017, 0.304), but not in trials using EPA (0.040 mmol l-1; 95% CI -0.132, 0.212). In conclusion, dietary EPA/DHA supplementation improved the TG and HDL status but increased LDL levels in comparison with ALA.On-surface synthesis is a powerful method for fabricating atomically precise graphene nanoribbons (GNRs), but the products always include defective structures. In this study, scanning tunnelling microscopy and atomic force microscopy were used to determine the length distribution of armchair-edge GNRs with a width of seven carbon atoms (7-AGNRs) synthesised on Au(111) and to characterise defective structures. The product quality was improved by increasing the precursor deposition amount because of a preference for intermolecular polymerisation over intramolecular cyclodehydrogenation at a high coverage. However, the annealing rate had a complex effect on the quality, with a low rate elongating 7-AGNRs but degenerating the length uniformity. The approach, broadly applicable to systems involving adiabatically separated dynamical variables, employs constrained molecular dynamics to strictly enforce the condition that the force on the fast degrees of freedom, modeled as having zero mass, is null at each time step. The algorithm is symplectic and fully time reversible, and results in stable and efficient propagation. In this paper we complete the discussion of the mechanics of mass-zero constrained dynamics by showing how to adapt it to problems where the fast degrees of freedom must satisfy additional conditions. This extension includes, in particular, the important case of first principles molecular dynamics. We then consider the statistical mechanics of the mass-zero constrained dynamical system demonstrating that the marginal probability sampled by the dynamics in the physical phase space recovers the form of the Born-Oppenheimer probability density. The effectiveness of the approach and the favorable scaling of the algorithm with system size are illustrated in test calculations of solid Na via orbital-free density functional dynamics.As a promising candidate for CO2 electroreduction, metal chalcogenides suffer from limited carrier density, which hampers the electron transport of electrocatalysts and activation of CO2. Herein, we have modified In2S3 nanosheets by in situ forming metallic In nanoparticles for enhanced CO2 electroreduction. The In-In2S3 hybrid nanosheets exhibited a remarkable geometrical current density of 70.3 mA cm-2 at -1.1 V vs. RHE, with 62.1 mA cm-2 for the carbonaceous product. The faradaic efficiency of the In-In2S3 hybrid nanosheets for the carbonaceous product reached 90% at -1.0 V vs. RHE, including 76% for formate production and 14% for CO production. The mechanistic study revealed that the improved performance by forming In nanoparticles on In2S3 nanosheets originated from the increased carrier density of the electrocatalysts and the decreased work function, which benefited the CO2 activation.BACKGROUND Recent literature suggests that concurrent septoplasty during endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) improves patient outcomes, however, the underlying indications for performing concurrent septoplasty are unknown. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between objective radiologic measures of nasal septal deviation with preoperative patient symptomatology and measures of CRS disease severity. We also sought to understand the association of objective radiologic measurements with surgeon performance of concurrent septoplasty during ESS. METHODOLOGY Seventy-four patients with CRS undergoing ESS were prospectively enrolled. Angles of septal deviation, intranasal areas and volumes were assessed on preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans and correlated with a robust battery of patient reported outcomes measures (PROMs), objective measures of CRS severity including olfaction scores, radiologic and endoscopic staging, and performance of septoplasty. RESULTS Intranasal areas and volumes demonstrated only weak linear associations with patient-reported nasal congestion, however, angles of septal deviation alone did not correlate with congestion or any other PROM measure. Meanwhile, radiologic septal-related measurements did not correlate with objective measures of CRS disease severity or the performance of a concurrent septoplasty. CONCLUSIONS Though prior studies demonstrate improved patient outcomes in the setting of concurrent septoplasty during ESS, this study failed to establish an association between preoperative radiologic septal-related measurements and patient symptomatology or surgeon decision to perform septoplasty. Although objective factors to identify patients most likely to benefit from concurrent septoplasty remain unidentified, the potential improvement of surgical recommendations and patient outcomes makes this an important area of continued investigation.
