Invasive trichosporonosis is a rare and lethal fungal infection that occurs in immunocompromised patients. Breakthrough trichosporonosis can occur in patients treated with echinocandins since Trichosporon spp. are resistant to these antifungal agents. We report a case of breakthrough Trichosporon asahii fungemia. A 62-year-old Japanese woman with relapsed follicular lymphoma was treated empirically with broad-spectrum antibiotics and micafungin due to an intermittent fever during reinduction chemotherapy. After four cycles of anti-cancer chemotherapy, she experienced a high neutropenic fever and T. asahii was subsequently detected from a blood culture. The patient was not given voriconazole due to the contraindication for use with carbamazepine, and she was successfully treated with fluconazole plus liposomal amphotericin B without any serious complications. The combined therapy of fluconazole and liposomal amphotericin B may therefore be useful in treating T. asahii fungemia, especially in patients receiving antiepileptic agents.We aimed to investigate whether resveratrol (RSV) could sensitize human triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells to FL118-induced cell death, epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), invasion, and migration. The effects of sequential administration of RSV and FL118 on MDA-MB-436 and MDA-MB-468 cells were evaluated in terms of cell viability, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, cell cycle distribution, active caspase-3/7 levels, migration and invasion. Furthermore, mRNA and protein levels of EMT associated genes and proteins were also evaluated. Sequential administration of RSV and FL118 inhibited the cell viability in both TNBC cell lines. Meanwhile sequential administration of RSV and FL118 also dramatically reduced the migratory and invasive capabilities, it also reversed the EMT process in both TNBC cells. Moreover, sequential administration of RSV and FL118 led to a significant increase of apoptotic cells, as well as active Caspase-3/7 levels. However, cancer cells can reverse the DNA damaging effect of anticancer drugs by triggering DNA repair processes. In eukaryotic cells, the main DNA repair pathway responsible for DNA double-stand breaks repair is non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ). Inhibitors of DNA repair are of special interest in cancer research as they could break the cellular resistance to DNA-damaging agents and increase the efficiency of standard cancer treatments. In this study, we investigated the effect of two NHEJ inhibitors, SCR7 and NU7441, on the cytotoxic mechanism of VP-16/CDDP in a LoVo human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line. SCR7 blocks Ligase IV-mediated joining by interfering with its DNA binding, whereas NU7441 is a highly potent and selective DNA-PK inhibitor.II. Both inhibitors synergistically increased the cytotoxicity of CDDP and VP-16 when combined, but the effect of SCR7 was more pronounced. However, the roles of religiosity and spirituality in substance use have not been examined in individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF). Adults with CF (n = 123) completed measures of spirituality, religiosity, and substance use. Clinical measures of illness severity (e.g., BMI and %FEV1) were obtained from participants' medical records. Substance use rates for alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana were lower in this sample than those seen in the general population. Of the measured BMMRS subscales, spiritual experiences and religious commitment were significant predictors of lower alcohol use. These results suggest that personal factors of religiosity and spirituality are more important for substance use in adults with CF than participation in religious service and events or adoption of religious practices.European culture and thought have long disfavored ritual child circumcision, which is obligatory to Jews and Muslims. Furthermore, even if one were to grant this conclusion, the offense is not of sufficient magnitude to warrant government action to halt the practice. On the other hand, suppression of ritual child circumcision may represent an attack against cultures and societies in which circumcision is practiced.This study was conducted to determine the effect of religious belief on depression and hopelessness in advanced cancer patients. The sample size of this cross-sectional study was determined as 267 as a result of the power analysis. The study was carried out between February 2018 and December 2018. "The Patient Information Form", "The Religious Attitude Scale", "The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI)", and "The Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS)" were used to collect the data. It was determined that the total mean score of the cancer patients participating in the study for Religious Attitude Scale was 4.51 ± 0.44 (high level), their total mean score for depression inventory was 19.06 ± 9.38 (moderate level), and their total mean score for hopelessness scale was 10.23 ± 1.94 (moderate level). In the study, the difference between the religious beliefs and depression and hopelessness levels of the cancer patients was statistically significant (p  less then  0.05). In the study, it was determined that depression and hopelessness levels of cancer patients were moderate and their religious beliefs were high.
