The secondary objectives were patient-reported outcomes between eosinophilic and non-eosinophilic COPD. A prospective study was conducted in COPD patients for 52 weeks. COPD was diagnosed according to GOLD criteria. Blood eosinophil counts were recorded at study entry. Exacerbations were recorded during the entire study period whereas COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and spirometry were recorded at 12 months. The eosinophilic and non-eosinophilic groups were defined by blood eosinophil counts ≥300 and <300 cells/µL, respectively. A total of 145 COPD patients were included. Fifty-eight (40%) and 87 (60%) patients were eosinophilic and non-eosinophilic COPD and the median [interquartile range (IQR)] eosinophil counts were 481 [378.5, 675] and 149 [101.2, 208] cells/µL, respectively. The median (IQR) annual exacerbation rates were 3 [2, 4] and 2 [2, 2.5] times/year in the eosinophilic and non-eosinophilic groups, respectively (P=0.024). The eosinophilic group had higher admissions (P=0.007) but lower mortality (P=0.041). The patient-reported outcomes were not statistically significantly different between the two groups. Eosinophil counts ≥300 cells/µL identified exacerbation in COPD patients with sensitivity and specificity of 0.71 and 0.64, respectively. To analyze the risk factors of chronic left ventricular dysfunction (LVD) after cardiac valve surgery. A retrospective analysis of 860 patients who underwent heart valve surgery in our center from January 2017 to December 2018, including 650 males and 210 females, aged 58±5.8 years. Inclusion criteria (I) the patient was clinically diagnosed with heart valve disease and met the surgical indications for mitral valve replacement (MVR), mitral valve repair (MVP), aortic valve replacement (AVR) and double valve replacement (DVR); (II) if atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, and tricuspid regurgitation are combined before surgery, radiofrequency ablation, coronary bypass and tricuspid angioplasty were performed contemporarily. Aortic dissection is one of the most detrimental cardiovascular diseases with a high risk of mortality and morbidity. This study aimed to examine the key genes and microRNAs associated with Stanford type A aortic dissection (AAD). The expression data of AAD and healthy samples were downloaded from two microarray datasets in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to identify highly preserved modules by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially expressed miRNAs (DEmiRNAs) were selected and functionally annotated. The predicted interactions between the DEGs and DEmiRNAs were further illustrated. In two highly preserved modules, 459 DEGs were identified. These DEGs were functionally enriched in the HIF1, Notch, and PI3K/Akt pathways. Furthermore, 6 DEmiRNAs that were enriched in the regulation of vasculature development and HIF1 pathway, were predicted to target 23 DEGs. Our study presented several promising modulators, both DEGs and DEmiRNAs, as well as possible pathological pathways for AAD, which narrows the scope for further fundamental research.
