Top Five Most Picked Heroes in AIC 2021 Arena of Valor’s esports scene has ended the year with some interesting twists and highlights in this year’s AOV International Championship (AIC). But for most of the tournament, the participating teams have relied on the usual picks and strategies with staple heroes. Fans have never grown tired of seeing the same heroes match after match as they get treated to some action-packed matches as different players introduce different combos and synergies with whoever else is on the team. So, who are some of these tournament staples that remained relevant throughout the year? Here are the top five most commonly picked heroes throughout this year’s AIC: Richter Richter is a warrior hero who is either played as a Slayer laner or a support. He has seen lots of competitive play in esports tournaments because of how reliable his laning phase is. His first ability is his initiating move and grants him different additional effects depending on the terrain while his second and third abilities allow him to deal massive damage at close range with reduced risk to his HP. Lu Bu Lu Bu is another warrior who was also used in some AIC matches as a Slayer laner. However, pro players in the tournament reckon his abilities are more useful in the jungle. Lu Bu is a durable combatant no matter who he faces due to his ultimate which gives him lifesteal. Whereas his other abilities make him a hero that gets gradually stronger with the sustained damage he deals. Wonder Woman Wonder Woman is among the DC superheroes in Arena of Valor. Her versatility in being used as a jungler, mid laner, or a support is what makes her a meta-relevant hero in the competitive scene. Wonder Woman can deal decent damage with her abilities. The Joker Another comic book character who isn’t exactly a superhero, The Joker represents the DC franchise alongside Wonder Woman as one of the most picked AOV heroes in this year’s AIC. Aside from his first ability which has a long range and decent damage output, the Clown Prince of Crime also boasts a dangerous passive and ultimate ability which can burst opponents down with the right combo. Tulen and Tachi For the last entry on this list, there are actually two heroes who got picked the same number of times in the AIC 2021. Tulen was picked more frequently during the group stage while Tachi was picked more frequently in the knockout stage. Tulen is a mage hero who was either used in the tournament as a mid laner or a jungler. What makes him a staple in professional events is his ability to harass and burst down enemies once his passive gets triggered. He also has great mobility for a mage. On the other hand, Tachi is a warrior hero who was played as a Slayer laner once or twice but his abilities shine more when he is played as a support. He is durable and good at initiating team fights because his ultimate renders him immune from damage for a while. He can also deal huge amounts of true damage from his first ability. Casual players will have more time to grind with these so-called tournament mainstays if they wish to be just as good as the pro players in this year’s AIC. AOV has announced more esports tournaments to come next year so fans will have big things to look forward to, and possibly more heroes to shake up the meta as well.
