Light-absorbing organic carbon (or brown carbon, BrC) has been recognized as a critical driver in regional-to-global climate change on account of its significant contribution to light absorption. BrC sources vary from primary combustion processes (burning of biomass, biofuel, and fossil fuel) to secondary formation in the atmosphere. This paper investigated the light-absorbing properties of BrC such as site-specific mass absorption cross-section (MACBrC), absorption Ångström exponent (AAEBrC), and the absorbing component of the refractive index (kBrC) by using light absorption measurements from a 7-wavelength aethalometer over an urban environment of Chiang Mai, Thailand in northern peninsular Southeast Asia (PSEA), from March to April 2016. The contribution of BrC to total aerosol absorption (mean ± SD) was 46 ± 9%, 29 ± 7%, 24 ± 6%, 20 ± 4%, and 15 ± 3% at 370, 470, 520, 590, and 660 nm, respectively, highlighting the significant influence of BrC absorption on the radiative imbalance over northern PSEA. Strong and significant associations between BrC light absorption and biomass-burning (BB) organic tracers highlighted the influence of primary BB emissions. The median MACBrC and kBrC values at 370 nm were 2.4 m2 g-1 and 0.12, respectively. The fractional contribution of solar radiation absorbed by BrC relative to BC (mean ± SD) in the 370-950 nm range was estimated to be 34 ± 7%, which can significantly influence the regional radiation budget and consequently atmospheric photochemistry. This study provides valuable information to understand BrC absorption over northern PSEA and can be used in model simulations to reassess the regional climatic impact with greater accuracy.High particulate matter (PM) and ozone (O3) concentration in Hong Kong are frequently observed during the summertime typhoon season. Despite the critical effect of a typhoon on air pollution, contributions of vertical wind profile and cloud movement during transboundary air pollution (TAP) on surface PM and O3 concentration have yet to be fully understood. This work is the first study to apply a network of Doppler light detection and ranging (LiDAR) as well as back trajectory analysis to comprehensively analyze the effect of a weak Typhoon (Danas) occurring during 16-19 July 2019 on different variations in PM and O3 concentration. During the typhoon Danas, three types of surface air pollution with five episodes were identified (1) low PM and high O3 concentration; (2) co-occurring high PM and O3 concentration and (3) high PM and low O3 concentration. Employing our 3D Real-Time Atmospheric Monitoring System (3DREAMs) along with surface observations, we found the important role of TAP in the increases in surface PM and O3 concentration with significant vertical wind shear that transported air pollutants at upper levels, and strong vertical mixing that brought air pollutants to the ground level. Cloud movement related to typhoon periphery, as well as high solar radiation due to sinking motion and remote transport by continental wind, have an impact on local O3 concentration. For the substantial difference in O3 concentration between two air quality measurement sites, the similar vertical aerosol distributions and wind profiles suggest the comparable TAP contributions at the two sites and thus infer the critical role of local O3 photochemical process in the O3 difference. This work comprehensively reveals the influences of a weak typhoon on variations in PM and O3 during the five episodes, providing important references for air quality monitoring and forecast in regions under the influence of typhoon. To examine muscle activity patterns of the lower limbs while ascending and descending stairs and slope in adults with knee Osteoarthritis (knee-OA), who were scheduled or not scheduled for Total Knee Replacement (TKR) and healthy controls. This cross-sectional study included three groups knee-OA subjects scheduled for TKR (TKR group; N=15) and not scheduled for TKR (NTKR group; N=15) and age-matched controls (N=11). Outcome measures included joint range of motion (ROM), Timed Up and Go (TUG), joint pain levels, and functional disability (Oxford) score. Also, durations of muscle activity (rectus femoris, semitendinosus, medial gastrocnemius, bilaterally, and soleus, and tibialis anterior of the OA limb) were recorded while the subjects ascended and descended stairs and a level surface. Both knee-OA groups had significantly higher Oxford scores and bilateral knee pain levels compared to the control group. However, most potent CDK inhibitors lack the balance between efficacy and safety because of poor selectivity. Given the roles of CDK2 in tumorigenesis, selective CDK2 inhibition may provide therapeutic benefits against certain cancer. In this study, a series of 4-benzoylamino-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxamide derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated. The most selective compound DC-K2in212 in this series exhibited high potency towards CDK2 and had effective anti-proliferative activity against A2058 melanoma cell line and MV4-11 leukemia cell line while exhibiting low toxic effect on human normal cell lines MRC5 and LX2. The molecular modeling illustrated that compound DC-K2in212 had the similar binding mode with CDK2 as C-73, the most selective CDK2 inhibitor reported so far, which might account for selectivity against CDK2 over CDK1. Further biological studies revealed that compound DC-K2in212 suppressed CDK2-associated downstream signaling pathway, blocked cell cycle progression, and induced cellular apoptosis.
