Cannabidiol (CBD) is suggested to possess cardioprotective properties. We examined the influence of chronic (10 mg/kg once daily for 2 weeks) CBD administration on heart structure (e.g. cardiomyocyte width) and function (e.g. stimulatory and inhibitory responses induced by β-adrenoceptor (isoprenaline) and muscarinic receptor (carbachol) activation, respectively). Telomerase activation is the earliest event in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. Thus, we aimed to elucidate the role of telomere length maintenance during liver carcinogenesis. Telomere length was measured in the tumor and non-tumor liver tissues of 1,502 patients (978 with HCC) and integrated with TERT alterations and expression, as well as clinical and molecular (analyzed by genome, exome, targeted and/or RNA-sequencing) features of HCC. The polar auxin transport (PAT) system is distinct from the transport systems of other hormones and is controlled by three major transporter gene families pin-formed (PIN), auxin-resistant/like aux (AUX/LAX) and ATP-binding cassette transporters of the B class (ABCB). Here, we identified these three families in P. trichocarpa, P. euphratica and P. yunnanensis through a genome-wide analysis. The Populus PIN, AUX/LAX and ABCB gene families comprised 15, 8 and 31 members, respectively. Most PAT genes in Populus and Arabidopsis were identified as clear sister pairs, and some had unique motifs. Transcriptome profiling revealed that the expression of most PAT genes was unrelated to cutting inversion and that only several genes showed altered expression when cuttings were inverted. The auxin content difference at positions was opposite in upright and inverted cutting bodies during rooting, which obeyed the original plant polarity. However, during plant growth, the two direction types exhibited similar auxin movements in the cutting bodies, and the opposite auxin changes were observed in new shoots. Four PAT genes with a positive response to cutting inversion, PyuPIN10, PyuPIN11, PyuLAX6 and PyuABCB27, showed diverse expression patterns between upright and inverted cuttings during rooting and plant growth. Furthermore, PAT gene expression retained its polarity, which differs from the results found for auxin flow during plant growth. The inconformity indicated that a new downward auxin flow in addition to the old upward flow might be established during the growth of inverted cuttings. Some highly polar PAT genes were involved in the maintenance of original auxin polarity, which might cause the enlarged stems of inverted cuttings. This work lays a foundation for understanding the roles of auxin transport in plant responses to inversion.Maintenance of optimal bone mass is controlled through the concerted functions of several cell types, including bone resorbing osteoclasts. Osteoclasts function to remove calcified tissue during developmental bone modeling, and degrade bone at sites of damage during bone remodeling. Changes to bone homeostasis can arise with alterations in osteoclastogenesis and/or catabolic activity that are not offset by anabolic activity; thus, factors that regulate osteoclastogenesis and bone resorption are of interest to further our understanding of basic bone biology, and as potential targets for therapeutic intervention. Several key cytokines, including RANKL and M-CSF, as well as co-stimulatory factors elicit kinase signaling cascades that promote osteoclastogenesis. These kinase cascades are offset by the action of protein phosphatases, including members of the serine/threonine phosphatase family. In the human genome, several have been found to originate from retroviruses, and some of which are involved in the progression of various cancers. Hence, to investigate whether retroviral-like genes are associated with AML development, we conducted a transcriptome sequencing analysis of 12 retroviral-like genes of 150 AML patients and 32 healthy donor samples, of which RNA sequencing data were obtained from public databases. We found high expression of ERV3-1, an envelope gene of endogenous retrovirus group 3 member 1, in all AML patients examined in this study. In particular, blood and bone marrow cells of the myeloid lineage in AML patients, exhibited higher expression of ERV3-1 than those of the monocytic AML lineage. We also examined the protein expression of ERV3-1 by immunohistochemical analysis and found expression of the ERV3-1 protein in all 12 myeloid-phenotype patients and 7 out of 12 monocytic-phenotype patients, with a particular concentration observed at the membrane of some leukemic cells.
