The development of metastatic gestational trophoblastic disease is the most important and serious complication. It is debatable whether to terminate the pregnancy or to continue. Another point is the validity of the conservative treatment of this type of neoplasm, especially in developing countries. CASE REPORT In this study, we report the first case of a twin pregnancy with complete mole and a living fetus in Jordan, which is a developing country. A 33-year-old woman presented with vaginal bleeding which was revealed to be due to a complete mole in the form of a twin pregnancy. A hystrostomy was performed with subsequent drop of ß-hCG level. However, the ß-hCG started to rise and the CT scan revealed multiple metastatic sites. Accordingly, she received 3 cycles of methotrexate, with a subsequent reduction in ß-hCG level. CONCLUSIONS This is the first case report of a complete mole in twin pregnancy in Jordan. To overcome the development of metastasis, close follow-up and immediate treatment are crucial when the conservative approach is being considered. This report highlights the importance of considering the diagnosis of complete mole for women with twin and vaginal bleeding.Nearly half of all cancers are treated with radiotherapy alone or in combination with other treatments, where damage to normal tissues is a limiting factor for the treatment. Radiotherapy-induced adverse health effects, mostly of importance for cancer patients with long-term survival, may appear during or long time after finishing radiotherapy and depend on the patient's radiosensitivity. Currently, there is no assay available that can reliably predict the individual's response to radiotherapy. We profiled two study sets from breast (n = 29) and head-and-neck cancer patients (n = 74) that included radiosensitive patients and matched radioresistant controls.. We studied 55 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 33 genes by DNA genotyping and 130 circulating proteins by affinity-based plasma proteomics. In both study sets, we discovered several plasma proteins with the predictive power to find radiosensitive patients (adjusted p less then 0.05) and validated the two most predictive proteins (THPO and STIM1) by sandwich immunoassays. By integrating genotypic and proteomic data into an analysis model, it was found that the proteins CHIT1, PDGFB, PNKD, RP2, SERPINC1, SLC4A, STIM1, and THPO, as well as the VEGFA gene variant rs69947, predicted radiosensitivity of our breast cancer (AUC = 0.76) and head-and-neck cancer (AUC = 0.89) patients. In conclusion, circulating proteins and a SNP variant of VEGFA suggest that processes such as vascular growth capacity, immune response, DNA repair and oxidative stress/hypoxia may be involved in an individual's risk of experiencing radiation-induced toxicity.Non-destructive rail testing and evaluation based on guided waves need accurate information about the mode propagation characteristics, which can be obtained numerically with the exact material properties of the rails. However, for rails in service, it is difficult to accurately obtain their material properties due to temperature fluctuation, material degradation and rail profile changes caused by wear and grinding. In this study, an inverse method is proposed to identify the material elastic constants of in-service rails by minimizing the discrepancy between the phase velocities predicted by a semi-analytical finite element model and those measured using array transducers attached to the rail. By selecting guided wave modes that are sensitive to moduli but not to rail profile changes, the proposed method can make stable estimations for worn rails. Numerical experiments using a three-dimensional finite element model in ABAQUS/Explicit demonstrate that reconstruction accuracies of 0.36% for Young's modulus and 0.87% for shear modulus can be achieved.Human exposure to mobile devices is traditionally measured by a system in which the human body (or head) is modelled by a phantom and the energy absorbed from the device is estimated based on the electric fields measured with a single probe. Such a system suffers from low efficiency due to repeated volumetric scanning within the phantom needed to capture the absorbed energy throughout the volume. To speed up the measurement, fast SAR (specific absorption rate) measuring systems have been developed. However, discrepancies of measured results are observed between traditional and fast measuring systems. In this paper, the discrepancies in terms of post-processing procedures after the measurement of electric field (or its amplitude) are investigated. Here, the concerned fast measuring system estimates SAR based on the reconstructed field of the region of interest while the amplitude and phase of the electric field are measured on a single plane with a probe array. The numerical results presented indicate that the fast SAR measuring system has the potential to yield more accurate estimations than the traditional system, but no conclusion can be made on which kind of system is superior without knowledge of the field-reconstruction algorithms and the emitting source.The pathogenicity of the common phytopathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas syringae toward Caenorhabditis elegans has been recently demonstrated. However, the major virulence factors involved in this interaction remain unknown. In this study, we investigated the nematocidal activity of P. syringae against C. elegans under iron-sufficient/limited conditions, primarily focusing on the role of the ferric chelator pyoverdine in a P. syringae-C. elegans liquid-based pathogenicity model. Prediction-based analysis of pyoverdine-encoding genes in the genome of the wild-type P. syringae strain MB03 revealed that the genes are located in one large cluster. Two non-ribosomal peptide synthetase genes (pvdD and pvdJ) were disrupted via a Rec/TE recombination system, resulting in mutant strains with abrogated pyoverdine production and attenuated virulence against C. elegans. When used alone, pure pyoverdine also showed nematocidal activity. The role of iron used alone or with pyoverdine was further investigated in mutant and MB03-based bioassays.
