The experimental constraints on additional scalars with masses in the MeV to GeV range could be significantly weakened if they interact predominantly with leptons rather than quarks. At an e^+e^- collider, such a leptophilic scalar (ϕ_L) would be produced predominantly through radiation from a τ lepton. We report herein a search for e^+e^-→τ^+τ^-ϕ_L, ϕ_L→ℓ^+ℓ^- (ℓ=e, μ) using data collected by the BABAR experiment at SLAC. No significant signal is observed, and we set limits on the ϕ_L coupling to leptons in the range 0.04 less then m_ϕ_L less then 7.0 GeV. These bounds significantly improve upon the current constraints, excluding almost entirely the parameter space favored by the observed discrepancy in the muon anomalous magnetic moment below 4 GeV at 90% confidence level.We study the transverse dynamical susceptibility of an antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 chain in the presence of a longitudinal Zeeman field. In the low magnetization regime in the gapless phase, we show that the marginally irrelevant backscattering interaction between the spinons creates a nonzero gap between two branches of excitations at small momentum. We further demonstrate how this gap varies upon introducing a second neighbor antiferromagnetic interaction, vanishing in the limit of a noninteracting "spinon gas." In the high magnetization regime, as the Zeeman field approaches the saturation value, we uncover the appearance of two-magnon bound states in the transverse susceptibility. This bound state feature generalizes the one arising from string states in the Bethe ansatz solution of the integrable case.
