Finally, the accuracy of the surface morphology prediction model was verified by ultra-precision fly cutting experiments, and identified the frequency range of the characteristic signal caused by the anisotropy of the KDP crystal from the frequency, thereby verifying the KDP crystal material properties has a significant effect on the surface of the machined workpiece roughness.Hydromechanical and structural properties of compacted loess have a significant impact on the stability and reliability of subbase and subgrade, which needs to be quickly determined in the field and laboratory. Hence, an electrical resistivity method was used to characterize the hydromechanical and structural properties of compacted loess during constant rate of strain compression. In the present work, compacted loess samples with a dry density of 1.7 g/cm3, a diameter of 64 mm, a height of 10 mm and different water content ranging from 5-25% were prepared. The constant rate of strain (CRS) tests were conducted by a developed oedometer cell equipped with a pair of horizontal circular electrodes (diameter of 20 mm) and vertical rectangular electrodes (width of 3.5 mm) to determine the electrical resistivity of compacted loess. The results showed that as average water content increases, plastic compression indices increase from 0.220 to 0.350 and the elastic compression indices increase from 0.0152 to 0.030, buvariation for the coefficient of anisotropic index with a value of 2.190. An equation correlating average formation factor and water content and vertical strain is regressed to characterize the hydromechanical properties of compacted loess by measuring its impedance, which can be used to evaluate the stability of compacted loessic ground and subgrade.Termite infestations in urban areas are a serious problem because they cause negative economic effects, reduce the esthetic value of buildings, damage crops, and require household repairs. Chemical controls are the most common method used against subterranean termites, and baiting has emerged as one of the prominent control methods. The goal of this research was to determine the efficacy of termite baiting by treating one of six active termite stations (selective baiting) with chlorfluazuron baits to eradicate six populations of subterranean termites. This work shows that the placement of chlorfluazuron baits in one of the active stations was sufficient to destroy a colony that was interconnected with multiple chlorfluazuron-free stations. In general, it requires an average of 4-8 weeks for a quantity of less than 300 g of chlorfluazuron bait to remove a termite infestation at the study site.Wooden power poles and their ongoing inspection represent a significant investment for most electrical power utilities. This study explored the potential for using microwave fields to non-invasively assess the state of hardwood power poles in a field experiment. Two strategies were assessed 2.4 GHz microwave field transmission through the pole; and mutual coupling between antennae using a 10.525 GHz radar module applied to the surface of the pole. Both systems distinguished between sound hardwood poles and those which were compromised by decay and subterranean termite attack and infestation.Seeds of almost all orchids depend on mycorrhizal fungi to induce their germination in the wild. The regulation of this symbiotic germination of orchid seeds involves complex crosstalk interactions between mycorrhizal establishment and the germination process. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of gibberellins (GAs) on the symbiotic germination of Dendrobium officinale seeds and its functioning in the mutualistic interaction between orchid species and their mycobionts. To do this, we used liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer to quantify endogenous hormones across different development stages between symbiotic and asymbiotic germination of D. officinale, as well as real-time quantitative PCR to investigate gene expression levels during seed germination under the different treatment concentrations of exogenous gibberellic acids (GA3). Our results showed that the level of endogenous GA3 was not significantly different between the asymbiotic and symbiotic germination groups, but the ratio of GA3 and abscisic acids (ABA) was significantly higher during symbiotic germination than asymbiotic germination. Exogenous GA3 treatment showed that a high concentration of GA3 could inhibit fungal colonization in the embryo cell and decrease the seed germination rate, but did not significantly affect asymbiotic germination or the growth of the free-living fungal mycelium. The expression of genes involved in the common symbiotic pathway (e.g., calcium-binding protein and calcium-dependent protein kinase) responded to the changed concentrations of exogenous GA3. Taken together, our results demonstrate that GA3 is probably a key signal molecule for crosstalk between the seed germination pathway and mycorrhiza symbiosis during the orchid seed symbiotic germination.
