Target analytes were polyethylene terephthalate (PET) 1st series cyclic dimer to heptamer, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) dimer to pentamer and a polyurethane oligomer. Standard addition method was applied for the calibration, and the limits of quantification ranged from 3.2 to 17.2 ng g-1. Recoveries ranged from 86.4 to 109.8%, RSDs were lower than 12% for all analytes, and matrix effect never exceeded ± 2.5%. The method was successfully applied to real commercial pasta samples, where the PET 1st series cyclic trimer was the most abundant oligomer, being found in all tested samples. The 1st series PET cyclic dimer and tetramer, as well as 1,4,7-trioxacyclotridecane-8,13-dione, were found in considerable amounts. Traces of the 2nd and 3rd series PET cyclic dimers were also found.This study developed a novel surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) method coupled with cellulose nanofiber (CNF)-based SERS wipers that were fabricated on quartz papers coated with a mixture of silver nanoparticle (AgNP) and gold nanostar (AuNS). A "drop-wipe-test" protocol was developed for rapid detection of pesticide residues in vegetables by SERS. Tremendously enhanced Raman scattering signals were obtained from the quartz/CNF/mixture (AgNP + AuNS) substrate, which were much higher than the paper/mixture (AgNP + AuNS) substrate. This method was used to detect ferbam on kale leaves within a few minutes and the detection limit was 50 μg/kg based on the PLS models (R2 = 0.89). The enhancement factor of the SERS substrate was calculated to be ~ 104 with satisfactory reproducibility. Satisfactory SERS performance could be achieved within 1-month storage period. To this end, a new approach integrating mixed-mode cationic exchange based solid-phase extraction (MCX-SPE) coupled with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and feature-based molecular networking (FBMN) was developed. FBMN's intuitive visualization results enabled twenty-five novel peptides to be quickly discovered and characterized from the cultures of three strains of Bifidobacterium, B. animalis, B. longum, and B. pseudolongum. This study investigates the effects of two IMF processing technologies on cow milk protein digestion using an infant static in vitro gastrointestinal model. The degree of protein hydrolysis at the end of the gastric phase was 3.7-fold higher for IMF produced by high temperature (IMF-HT), compared to IMF produced by cascade membrane filtration (IMF-CMF), as assessed by free N-terminal group analysis. The processing type also influenced the panel of bioavailable peptides detected in basolateral compartments of Caco-2 monolayers exposed to gastrointestinal digested IMFs. In addition, IMF-CMF significantly increased tight junction protein, claudin 1, whilst IMF-HT significantly reduced tight junction integrity. In conclusion, producing IMF by CMF may preserve intestinal barrier integrity and can deliver its own unique inventory of bioavailable peptides with potential bioactivity.
