Oxygen vacancy-rich CeO2/BiOBr was prepared via solvothermal method combined with rGO to design a Z-scheme heterojunction, which was used for photocatalytic oxidation of gaseous elemental mercury. The Z-scheme heterojunction constructed by interface engineering significantly promotes charge carriers transfer at the interface. Moreover, the surface oxygen vacancies and Ce3+/Ce4+ redox centers tend to capture electrons to accelerate the Z-scheme path of charge transfer to maintain efficient redox performance and facilitate molecular oxygen activation to boost photocatalytic removal of Hg0. The collaboration of oxygen vacancies, Ce3+/Ce4+ and heterojunction enhances the photocatalytic oxidation activity, which achieves a removal efficiency of 76.53%, which is 1.29 times that of BiOBr and 1.91 times that of CeO2. It provides a feasible strategy for the development of high-efficiency Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalytic system for environmental purification.In preparing polymer capsules by vesicle templated emulsion polymerization, the initial size and morphology of the biomimetic vesicle template dictate the final size and morphology of the capsules. The presence of salts (NaCl, NaBr and LiCl) influences the size, dispersity (PDI) and morphology of dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide or chloride (DODAX, X = Br- or Cl-) vesicles, prepared via membrane extrusion. DODAX vesicles in pure water exhibit broad size distributions with PDI of 0.5 and 0.3 for DODAB and DODAC, respectively. Addition of salts in water before (pre-addition) and after (post-addition) extrusion reduces the size and PDI of the vesicles significantly and results in various morphology investigated with cryo-TEM. It is observed that at low salt concentration (≤0.5 mM) in pre-addition, DODAX exists as a nice quasi spherical unilamellar vesicle, suitable for vesicle templated polymerization whereas in post-addition of salt at any concentration, the morphology is dominated by structures not suitable for templating application. The information obtained here is crucial for vesicle templated emulsion polymerization and it will be shown that there is a relationship between vesicle template morphology and final polymer capsule morphology.Nanometric ions, such as polyoxometalates (POMs) or ionic boron clusters, with low charge density have previously shown a strong propensity to bind to macrocycles and to adsorb to neutral surfaces micellar, surfactant covered water-air and polymer surfaces. These association phenomena were shown to arise from a solvent-mediated effect called the (super-)chaotropic effect. We show here by combining cloud point (CP) measurements, scattering (SAXS/SANS) and spectroscopic techniques (NMR) that Keggin POMs H4SiW12O40 (SiW) and H3PW12O40 (PW), induce the self-assembly of an organic solvent dipropylene glycol n-propylether (C3P2), in water. The strong interaction between SiW/PW with C3P2 leads to a drastic increase in the CP, and aqueous solubility, of C3P2, e.g. SiW enables reaching full water-C3P2 co-miscibility at room temperature. At high POM concentrations, SiW leads to a continuous increase of the CP, forming SiW-[C3P2]1-2 complexes, whereas PW produces a decrease in the CP attributed to the formation of nearly "dry" spherical [PW]n[C3P2]m colloids, with n ~ 4 and m ~ 30. At high C3P2/PW contents, the [PW]n[C3P2]m colloids turn into large interconnected structures, delimiting two pseudo-phases a PW-C3P2-rich phase and a water-rich phase. It is proposed that the stronger electrostatic repulsions between SiW (4-), compared to PW (3-), prevents the formation of mesoscopic colloids.Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) has received increasing attention. In this study, AgNPs were prepared through in-situ reduction by aminated alkaline lignin (AAL). Compared with alkaline lignin (AL), AAL exhibited stronger reduction capacity (increased by 36%) due to the introduced amine groups and better water solubility. Moreover, the coordination effect of amine groups on AAL improved the binding force between lignin and AgNPs. The content of AgNPs in AgNPs/AAL composite were 2.4 times higher than that in AgNPs/AL, such content could be further increased through increasing the reduction pH or prolonging the heating time. The results of XPS, XRD and TEM showed that the AgNPs were spherical and monodisperse with an average particle size about 17 nm. Additionally, the size of AgNPs was affected by the amination degree of lignin. AgNPs/AAL exhibited good catalytic performance for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol, and this compound could be easily recovered and reused for at least eight cycles. Duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are uncommon, making up only 3-5% of all GISTs. [1,2] Historically, the treatment of choice for duodenal GIST tumors was pancreaticoduodenectomy. [3]Currently, newer surgical intervention methods including local resection via laparotomy, endoscopic resection, and robotic resection are feasible. When doing a local resection, the defect can be closed either primarily or via a Roux-en-Y duodenojejunostomy. [3] Case presentation Our patient is a 64-year- old female who presented initially with shortness of breath and was found to have a pulmonary embolism. She then developed upper GI bleeding from anticoagulation and was found to have an ulcerated GIST tumor in the anti-mesenteric border of the third portion of the duodenum (D3). Initial surgery was postponed due to high pulmonary artery pressure from the pulmonary embolism. The patient underwent argon beam coagulation of the bleeding mass to control the bleeding, followed by localized radiotherapy plus Gleevec. Unfortunately, the tumor grew in size during follow-up. The patient was then taken to the OR for a robot-assisted partial duodenal resection (D3) with Roux-en-Y duodenojejunostomy to reconstruct the large defect. She did well post operatively and her final pathology showed a GIST tumor, c-kit and DOG1 positive, 3.5 cm in size, with negative margins. Robotic duodenal resection is a new technique currently being used to resect duodenal GIST tumors. Our video demonstrates the feasibility of D3 partial resection with Roux-en-Y duodenojejunostomy. Duodenal GIST tumor robotic resection offers both decreased morbidity and adequate oncologic outcomes.
