Compared to the visual rating, Aβ-index method showed the largest area under the ROC curve [0.9568 (95% CI 0.9252, 0.98833)]. The best cut-off score was of - 0.3359 with sensitivity and specificity values of 0.97 and 0.83, respectively. Only the Aß-index was related to more severe decrement of cognitive performances [regression coefficient 9.103 (95% CI 1.148, 17.058)]. The Aβ-index is considered as preferred option in asymptomatic elders, since it is operator-independent, avoids the selection of reference area, is closer to established visual scoring and correlates with the evolution of cognitive performances.Three-dimensional topological insulators have been demonstrated in recent years, which possess intriguing gapless, spin-polarized Dirac states with linear dispersion only on the surface. The spin polarization of the topological surface states is also locked to its momentum, which allows controlling motion of electrons using optical helicity, i.e., circularly polarized light. The electrical and thermal transport can also be significantly tuned by the helicity-control of surface state electrons. Here, we report studies of photo-thermoelectric effect of the topological surface states in Bi2Te2Se thin films with large tunability using varied gate voltages and optical helicity. The Seebeck coefficient can be altered by more than five times compared to the case without spin injection. This deep tuning is originated from the optical helicity-induced photocurrent which is shown to be enhanced, reduced, turned off, and even inverted due to the change of the accessed band structures by electrical gating. The helicity-selected topological surface state thus has a large effect on thermoelectric transport, demonstrating great opportunities for realizing helicity control of optoelectronic and thermal devices. Osteoporosis is a skeletal disorder characterized by compromised bone strength, resulting in increased fracture risk. Patients with prostate cancer may have multiple risk factors contributing to bone fragility advanced age, hypogonadism, and long-term use of androgen-deprivation therapy. Despite absence of metastatic disease, patients with nonmetastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer receiving newer androgen receptor inhibitors can experience decreased bone mineral density. In particular, we explore the implications of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) and electrostatic doping (ED) on the existence and characteristics of 1D magnons confined to layer stacking domain walls in FBL. The coexistence of DMI and ED is found to enrich the topology in FBL, yet the corresponding domain wall magnons do not carry a well-defined valley index. On the other hand, we show that layer stacking domain walls in DMI-free FBL constitute 1D channels for ballistic transport of topological valley-polarized magnons. Our theoretical results raise hope towards magnon valleytronic devices based on atomically thin topological magnetic materials.18-flurodesoxyglucose position emission tomography (FDG-PET) with computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a broadly accepted tool for pretherapeutic staging and post-therapeutic assessment of response. The prognostic value of sequential post-therapeutic FDG-PETs and the impact of change in metabolic activity has been scarcely reported so far. We hypothesized that an increase in metabolic activity (as measured by maximum standardized uptake value, SUVmax) would be predictive for recurrence. We retrospectively assessed all oral, oropharyngeal, laryngeal, and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma patients treated at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, University Hospital Zurich between April 1st, 2010 and September 30th, 2018 (N = 337). After a negative post-treatment FDG-PET at 3 months, we measured the SUVmax of the local tumor area and the regional lymph nodes on follow-up FDG-PET at 9 months. We then correlated SUVmax difference between 9 and 3 months with tumor recurrence using Kaplan Meier analysis. During follow-up, 68 patients (20.2%) had local recurrence and 53 had regional recurrence (15.7%) at a median time of 9.0 (IQR 4.25-14) and 7.0 (IQR 5.25-23) months, respectively. An increase in local and/or regional SUVmax from the 3 months to the 9 months post-therapeutic FDG-PET resulted in a poorer recurrence-free survival (Log rank, P = 0.001, for both). An increase in local SUVmax between 3 and 9 months was associated with a hazard ratio of 4.17 for recurrence (95%CI 1.89-9.2, P = 0.0003). In conclusion, an increase in metabolic activity/SUVmax between two post-therapeutic FDG-PETs requires a histological examination as it is associated with tumor recurrence.Paclitaxel resistance is a critical challenge in ovarian cancer treatment. This study aimed to identify microRNAs (miRNAs) that modulate paclitaxel resistance for use as potential therapeutic targets in such settings. Paclitaxel-resistant cell lines were established using two ovarian cancer cell lines SKOV3ip1 and HeyA8. The evaluation of miRNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) arrays indicated that the expression of miR-522-3p was downregulated in paclitaxel-resistant cells. The restoration of miR-522-3p sensitized the resistant cells to paclitaxel, and its downregulation desensitized the parental cells. Using PCR arrays, we focused on E2F2, with the luciferase reporter assay revealing that it was a direct target for miR-522-3p. The paclitaxel-resistant cells showed stronger E2F2 expression than the parental cells, while E2F2 inhibition sensitized the resistant cells to paclitaxel. Forced E2F2 expression in the parental cells led to the acquisition of paclitaxel resistance, while miR-522-3p inhibited E2F2 expression and was associated with retinoblastoma protein phosphorylation attenuation, which resulted in G0/G1 arrest.
