Today's collaborations across fields of health and wellness are insufficient to meet societies' challenges in combating disease and maintaining the ecosystem and public health. In this article, we present a One Health curriculum model designed to encourage undergraduate students of varying disciplines to value the connectedness of animals, humans, and the environment and to think innovatively about solutions to priority global health issues. We present the design and implementation of a course that brought together multiple faculty from different fields of study, including the dental, medical, nutrition, and veterinary schools, in a curriculum designed for undergraduates primarily from Arts & Sciences fields. The curriculum was collaboratively designed around four key One Health categories 1) Infectious zoonotic diseases and global health, 2) Naturally occurring shared disease in companion animals that can serve as models for human disease, 3) Human-animal interactions, and 4) Impact of environmental health on human and animal health. We show this course successfully deepened students' understandings of One Health, its role in addressing high priority health issues and the overall benefits of a One Health approach to tackling societal problems. We also report a positive experience by the faculty working in collaboration to implement the curriculum model and the overall enthusiasm of students for the course, all of whom would recommend it to their peers. We conclude by proposing the potential of the curriculum model underlying this course to fill the need for One Health Curricula in programs preparing future health professionals. © 2020 The Authors.There are very few reports in the literature about clavicular fractures being associated with a pneumothorax. With this combination of injuries, there are also minimal reports of a delayed presentation of a pneumothorax. This is the first report of a delayed pneumothorax followed by a recurrence of a pneumothorax due to the fractured ends of the clavicle. This case report describes a 49-year-old man who sustained a right-sided pneumothorax from a fractured clavicle several hours after a bus accident. His initial chest examination and radiographs showed no evidence of a pneumothorax. The pneumothorax resolved after 5 days of treatment with a thoracostomy tube. After removing the tube, the procedure was repeated later that day as he again developed a pneumothorax. Ten days later, the patient had surgical intervention of the clavicle due to the unresolved pneumothorax. The clavicle is usually managed conservatively in patients sustaining a clavicular fracture and pneumothorax, however, surgical intervention was mandatory based on failed conservative management. At 3 months follow up, the patient had normal shoulder function. Clinicians must be aware that fractured ends of the clavicle may cause repeated pulmonary damage resulting in a delayed and or a recurrent presentation of a pneumothorax. © 2020 The Authors.The hypermobility of the glenohumeral joint accounts for its anatomic predisposition for instability and dislocation. The stability of the shoulder joint is dependent on static and dynamic soft tissue structures, among which is the labrum. Circumferential labral tears are a rare pathological entity of shoulder instability that have not been commonly reported in the literature. A detailed history and physical examination are crucial for accurate diagnosis since MRIs have a poor sensitivity. A 40-year-old male patient with a history of atraumatic recurrent left shoulder subluxations for 6 years. On physical examination, there was no evidence of motor or sensory deficit. MR images were suggestive of Hills-Sachs lesion with intact rotator cuffs. Pan-labral tear repair via arthroscopy presents a unique challenge, even for the skilled orthopedic surgeon. Hence, the repair demands accessory portals and percutaneous techniques for the adequate placement of anchors. The purpose of this case is the rare presentation of a pan-labral tear repaired arthroscopically. © 2020 The Authors.Background Uterine serous carcinoma (USC) is an aggressive variant of endometrial cancer overexpressing HER2/neu in about 30% of cases. Trastuzumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting Her2/Neu, in combination with carboplatin/paclitaxel, is considered the preferred regimen for the treatment of advanced or recurrent HER2/Neu+ USC per NCCN guidelines. Case We describe two USC patients with overexpression of HER2/neu at 2+/3+ level by immunohistochemistry and c-erbB2 gene amplification by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay that, after an initial clinical response to trastuzumab, developed resistance/progression. Post-treatment biopsy (collected at the time of clinical progression on trastuzumab) demonstrated loss of HER2/neu overexpression in the recurrent/progressing tumor cells in both patients. Conclusion Selection of HER2/NEU negative tumor cells may represent a major mechanism of resistance to trastuzumab in USC patients. © 2020 The Author(s).In a 53-year-old woman who had a surgical diagnosis of grade 3 endometrioid carcinoma (pT1aN0M0, FIGO 1A), adjuvant chemotherapy with paclitaxel and carboplatin was initiated. However, after the completion of fourth cycle, the patient refused to continue the treatment. At 12 months after surgery, local recurrence was noted near the left posterior portion of the vaginal stump. External radiotherapy to the pelvic cavity achieved marked reduction of the tumor. At 12 months after radiotherapy, regrowth of the tumor was noted. Although the tumor was negative for programmed cell death ligand 1, after the identification of a high level of microsatellite instability, treatment with pembrolizumab, an immune checkpoint inhibitor, was initiated. After 2 cycles of treatment, the recurrent tumor markedly regressed. Four months later, a complete metabolic response was confirmed by positron emission tomography, without any immune-related adverse events; at the time of writing, this has been maintained for 9 months. © 2020 The Author(s).This case report describes a patient who developed severe hypertriglyceridemia (1871 mg/dL) and hyperlipidemia (LDL 132 mg/dL) during intraperitoneal (IP) administration of cisplatin and paclitaxel as adjuvant treatment for stage IIIC fallopian tube carcinoma. After an evaluation with her primary care physician, she was treated with gemfibrozil and rosuvastatin for the duration of her treatment. There was complete resolution of hypertriglyceridemia after completion of chemotherapy. This adverse event is rare and has not been reported in the literature with this chemotherapeutic regimen.
